No one knew that in the simple city of Mandeville, Louisiana, northern New Orleans had a secret ready to be unleashed. This small centred city had the perfect surroundings for what 12 Stones needed to get started. The environment was a perfect inspiration that brought together to true sound of fined art of Modern Rock with several fusions of touching melody.
Being in close grounds, it didn’t take that long for the band to bond. The band included Paul McCoy as vocals, Greg Trammell playing guitar, Aaron Gainer, playing drums and Eric Weaver on guitar.
Paul was determined to create a different music scene that brought together the music they really believed in.
It didn’t take long for song writing ideas to leak from his mind onto flowing ink from pen to paper.
The band had a huge successful kick off as they played a numerous amount of small shows and local gigs; their album was slowly picking up interest to many neighbouring areas.
However, after a short while the band was slowly breaking away and was unsure about permanent band positions. Paul and Eric turned out to be the only surviving members until they didn’t have to search long for replacements. Paul and Eric soon met up with Greg Trammell and Aaron Gainer, soon to be their future guitarist, and drummer.
The band’s demo eventually caught interest to fans and were recognised throughout the state. However, 12 Stones were anxious for the next level and took to New York. Nervous, yet excited as they played before an audience of industry representatives, New York was a whole new experience they never expected. But as surprises do happen, something special was unexpectedly going to spring up back in the hometown of Mandeville.
After only being together almost a year and a half, the band were recognised by Wind-Up records and were immediately signed up. The band was well on their way to record the debut album in Los Angeles. This was what they had longed hoped for.
Once in Los Angeles they were introduced to producer Jay Baumgardner who had also worked with well known artists suck as: Papa Roach, Drowning Pool and Alien Ant Farm.
The final result of all these worked out sessions was positive proof to show their maturity and worth. The enthusiastic producer’s encouragement helped them immensely and was with them all the way. Above the struggles and stresses of perfecting their art, they admitted having a great time working at it. At last, the album came to life as it’s thunderous singles ‘Broken’ and ‘The Way I Feel’ infected the airwaves. The self-titles debut album was bursting with hard rocking melodies and tunes that could undeniably become future anthems.
In ‘Broken,’ the listener\'s attention span is under total control as the song captivates you, but then held on to by a haunting melody that seems to be a persuasive tune against soothing refrain.
In ‘The Way I Feel’ there is an honest relationship with the way Weaver and McCoy display an ease in collaboration where the vocals and guitar become one power. It displays Paul’s vocal talents in an aggressive wave and earnest emotion, teaming it with Weaver\'s guitar work that displays the awaited arrival that could bring back striking guitar solos to the radio waves.
Those who claim that ‘rock is dead’ will soon be resurrected in hearing the fine guitar skills weaver possesses. The album content has a variation to expose the numerous amounts of techniques 12 Stone were able to achieve as a band. The occasional track illustrates the hint of aggression however, always has a deeper side to the lavish expressions of emotion.
The band was able to manifest the idea of trying to be able to share emotion that any young person can relate to. Paul described the album to be based upon issues he had to face as a young child but trying to include positive views about the issues, instead of trying to demonstrate their music in a negative way. But this didn’t mean that the angry songs couldn’t be powerful. Each song had it’s own way of engaging impact and was another reason why the songs were successful.
The album that introduced 12 Stones to the world was just a fine example of what you can achieve by naturally blending aggressive rock with soothing melodies and which bleeds with influencing talent.
Having a wild collection of musical talents, 12 Stones had a lot to offer to the slowly evolving generation. All this huge success lead the band to ‘Potter’s Field’. Another amazing album release which took to the sales by storm. Paul McCoy was then later featured in the gothic rock newcomers, Evanescence music video for ‘Bring Me To Life’ that was an unforgettable anthem for the 21st century.
As the evolution of the band develops rapidly, we can expect more and more fans to jump along for the ride.
