WE WORK HARD!!
13 Dead Productions was started by Nic White in 1999 after the breakup of his highly followed Bay City Michigan band, Counterpart. When all of the other band members went off to major universties, Nic chose to go to a smaller community college knowing that he could achive his goals in the filming buisness just as well there. As the months went by, he realized that the vocalist in him still needed an outlet. With a shitty eight track recorder, and a computer, a professional attitude and a pair of balls the size of santa clause melons (sorry ladies thats metiphoricaly speaking) he started 13 Dead Eskimos Productions and went under the name Blanco after his backyard wrestling name (I still use my backyard wrestling name. Thats how me and him met). His first album, 2000s "Poerty of an Idle Mind" was his first attempt at a hip hop album and included his first tracks with me, M.C. U.D. When he started on 13s first movie, "Firepower" he decided to drop the word "Eskimos" in the name as to not offend any...well...eskimos. During the making of the movie I started making beats for the young rapping prodigy with very positive results. Shortly after that 13 Dead dropped a track with The Untamed Clique other wise known as the U.T.C. grabbing a new audience and expanding their horizons. It wasn't long before Peso from the U.T.C., other wise known as Matt Penya or Matt P, started dropping tracks with us. After a brief run with the group I moved to Midland, Michigan to recollect. In that time period Nic changed his name to Zero as to reflect on the actuality of his persona being that he was not a "bling bling bitch I'll shoot you" kind of rapper. With his experience from his first solo effort under his belt and the confidence derived from a combonation of basment free-styles and unbelievable amounts of drugs and alchohol, Zero dropped his milstone album "A Rose/Weapon by any other name..." (depending on who you ask) grabbing the attention of many a person in the tri-cities in Michigan. Well, not Saginaw because they are more akin to the "traditional" rap stylings, (with an acception to Bedlamites, right?) but fuck that. Tradition equals limitation to people that are trying to blaze their OWN god damn trail, right? Right. When I moved back out of Midland we started work on our first feature length film, our bombshell theatrical release Jo: The Crusader. It took two long, hard, grueling years to complete this project. There was many a rock along the road to the big screen. The story itself took the entire filming to complete due to plot holes, rallying up actors (our friends), season changes, lack of scenery, me moving to Florida for a month, fining Josh (hahaha), scoring the film (all done by me) and adding voice overs and sound effects to EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY LITTLE MEANINGLESS SCENE. The end result was pretty damn good if I do say so myself and managed to sell out a theater. DVDs are availible so if you want one, get a hold of Nic White via www.myspace.com/13deadproductions. During the making of this film however we accomplished more musicaly outside of this film than ever before. We managed to allign ourselves with Shattered Innosence, a group of very talented guys out of Bay City. We signed Peso to 13 Dead and started the group F.A.K.E. containing me, Zero (who went by Johnny Zero by that time) and Peso. 13 Dead and South 40 threw the first of an annual event called Hoodstock 05'. Now THAT was big. We managed to book about every important underground hip hop act out of the state of Michigan and we all tore the fucking ROOF off the place. It was insanity from start to finish and a hell of a good time, so look for the next one this summer in D town. After that Jake Blaze managed to buy out half of South 40 and started the bomb ass studio in his crib. I cranked out many an instrumental for those guys and can not wait to do more. After a little thinking, Jake Blaze signed 13 Dead to his label and we are kickin that hot shit to this day. Now 13 Dead is in colaberation with South 40 and its all sounding pretty hot. My experience with the label has been nothing short of incredible and there will be much more to come I'm sure. So rep us and I'll keep you guys posted.
