| “Going to Los Angeles / Wants to be famous / It’ll be fabulous”. While these lyrics from “Lost Angeles” epitomize the thoughts of many artists who move to L.A., the four members of the alternative rock band 39 Reasons are determined to not live out the cliché described in their own song. With influences ranging from U2 to Weezer to Aerosmith to Pearl Jam, 39 Reasons manages to compose original, modern songs that are commercial while still maintaining an edge. Fans of bands such as Incubus, Jimmy Eat World and U2 will find a familiar, yet fresh sound with this band.
Created in December 2003 from remnants of another L.A. band and new vocalist Nate Stauffer, 39 Reasons played its first show two months later to a sold out crowd at 14 Below in Santa Monica. Prompted by requests from fans, the band recorded three songs in March 2004. Their song Photograph from this cd was submitted to the Billboard World Song Contest and earned high praises and an honorable mention in the alternative rock category. Realizing their songs could sound even better, they brought on a producer and re-entered the studio in the fall of 2004 to record a three song demo. Songs from this disc have been featured regularly on KCLA 99.3 FM in Los Angeles as well as internet and indie radio stations around the world.
A strong internet presence has lead to their selection as one of two bands that performed at Sports Illustrated’s 50th Anniversary Tour at its stop at the Santa Monica Pier, local booking opportunities and a growing fan base. Because of the power of the internet, 39 Reasons has been able to expose their songs to music fans worldwide. This summer, the band embarked on their first cross country tour, meeting many of their fans face to face for the first time.
Nate Stauffer pairs his passionate vocals with an in your face attitude that can instantly take control of an audience. Brian Angely’s guitar riffs and infectious hooks partner effortlessly with a rock solid rhythm section. Bassist, Joe McLaughlin, and drummer, Scott Speer feed off of each other so well, they act as a single unit. Live shows are energetic and entertaining and leave fans wanting more.
Previous incarnations of the band boasts song placement in the independent film “School of Life” and on the MTV series “Dismissed” as well as airplay on commercial radio. While their ultimate goal is to continue on their path and have their music heard by the masses, whether it is via radio play, film or television placements or live shows, these four grounded individuals will do so while staying true to themselves. No excuses… 39 Reasons.
