Controversial mr. fitty.
Hey look, I'm no racist, but I finally
came out of 3 years on isound/bandhunt, and I
bring this legend to this forum because
I'm sick of rap. I'm not a racist, I
have many black friends, and white people rap
too, but rappers like fifty cent, lil'
scrappy, lil' jon, lil' billy, lil'
dr teefy, b nippa flah wah dah, and etc. are
all homeless punks taht come off the street
and flip out with some crappy phrases such as
"WHO MIKE JONES?" or maybe just
"I got mah nine on da block"
"Rappers like Rev Run, Jay-z etc. are
good rappers, i dont' listen to them, but
they don't sit there talking bout their
nine mm, their weed in their pockets, the bat
they beat down the "pigs" with,
and the chicks who's asses they've
claimed to have smacked. David banner, that
guy is awful. That gotta getcha body wet
video is nasty and annoying. I'm
straight, but seeing dozens of chicks
swetting with tight pants that ride up their
crotch, and thinking of how they feel with
david banner standing over them? that feels
eary, and the song is just a bunch of squeaky
noises playing back. 50 is the biggest
"pull out mah 9" rapper and he
pisses me off.
Rap like his is the same braggy line played
over and over and as it has been stated
before, fuck rap.

when it was formed was made as an art to draw
attention and express yourself...........so
what they brag a bit..lets look at
rock.....90% of it is either about a)cutting

c) getting dumped (which is accually a

starting to realize how retarted they

Slipknot, instead, I get a total of 1 coheed

most of the time there's nothing else on,

got a much further illogical answer than I

music is completely unacceptible, and if it
absolutely has to be played..... let it, but
it shouldn't be allowed to overrun music
stations and get rid of all that is decent.
The best musical station we've got here is
a radio station called 1057 THE POINT, and
all it plays is rock, but one channel has
rock? and the rest are all rap? This is
foolish, and unsubstantial at all costs, it
amuses me of how much you rap fanboys make us

solve the fact that rap is destroying the
music industry, so let's summarize this.
If you're a rapper, and you've got many
songs that you want to be played, and theya

to listen to them, not just a few, but as
many as they can
point B) they all seem to be playing rap
Point C) this means that rap therefore is
more popular
Point D) music is created for people to like

Why it's funny is that I enjoy GOOD rock
music as much as the next guy. you just
assume that people like me hate rock and are

events, then hop in the car and put on some
Machinehead.
It's fairly safe to say you don't know
I met Metallica and hung with them for an
hour and a half before the show backstage at
their '93 Black Album concert in
Vancouver. I smoked a few joint with the
lead singer of Our Lady Peace in Kelowna BC
after their show. Or partying with I Mother
Earth in Kelowna at a mutual friends house
there. Fuck, we even occasionally have rock
groups play at our Crime Lab club in Vernon,
BC.
Hmmm, what else. Oh, how about me doing a
stint with a band from The Okangan Valley
called "Dick Janes's Spot"
as a featured singer on one track and filled
in on jam sessions where-ever needed. One of
my greatest all time buddies, now plays with
a Heavy metal group out of Vancouver called
Ocean 12 (around before the Ocean's 11 and
Ocean's 12 movies) Or how I helped them
( Dick Jane's Spot )setup ticket sales
and market their CD's in the Valley, after
helping them to mix and produce their
tracks.
Hmmm, what else, I would fill in vocals and
drums in another band, Golden Sledge from the
interior of BC
I have roadied for some of these groups and I
damn well partied with them too.
The difference between people like me and
Srt8 up haters, is that you have one thing in

How about the fact that after all the years
of listening to rock, then rap, I've now
found myself getting into the House/Rave
scene and finding that the uplifting spirit
makes me feel good. My all time best friend,
DJ Muggz Money and I host parties every
second week and are hosting an ENORMOUS party
for Halloween this weekend and plan on making
several thousand dollars doing so. Life is
life and music is music. Just use the music
you like to accentuate your life.
When my buddies and I wanna roll on some
fuckin marks, we listen to 50 Cent or Celly
Cell or some SCC, or rip up vibe levels with
some Young Buck.
If the party is going slow, and the gangsta
playas wanna get up and shake their thing, we
throw on some JKwon

"Can't Fuck With The South"

You wanna get the ladies up and showin'
dat skin, you throw in some Wesley Clark, or

genres.....fuck there's some good country
tracks that may get played. Not many good
enough, but everyonce in a while one or two
may pop up.
Good music is good music, the type of beat or
the lyrics, or even the way the artists'
dress are all semantics.

1983 Red Rocks concert recently during Pledge
Week, I was surprised to see how
indistinguishable it all was from a fascist
rally: the boots, the martial drums and
flags, the blood imagery and fists raised in
salute. If fascism really is the
aestheticization of politics, as Walter
Benjamin said, this is as good a place as any
to start looking for it in our time.
Still, when Bono says U2 is the greatest rock
band in the world, he might be right. Since

whether he knows it or not, is that rock is
dead again. No one believes in it and no
one’s buying. For years now rock has been
losing its market share to rap, while rap has
been losing sight of its one-time principles
in favor of Puffy-style poolside party jams.
I don’t judge art by its political content,
but if it has no content whatsoever it’s
usually worthless. Gone are the days when
Chuck D. could say rap was CNN for black
people. It’s more like Playboy Channel now.
The Old Guard packed up and moved to
Hollywood, while every new rapper seems to
have an identical line of signed baggy sweats
to push. It’s all about the bling-bling and
the Benz-o.
U2 is the perfect band for a moment when
people want the good news first and the bad
news never. The only serious act in music
today is the guy who’s never serious, the
only socially interesting rapper is the one
who denies all social value for his music:
Eminem. If you actually listen to his lyrics,
you find he has much higher moral standards
than the average hack who dutifully files a
Sunday column to denounce him. Every question
raised by his music-–the industry’s
manipulation of kids, the effects of violent
fantasy, the pills, the fans–-he deals with
in a more sophisticated manner than the press
does, most importantly the question of
freedom of expression.
Most people don’t understand that freedom of
expression only begins when you disagree. We
need not invoke it to protect things like
Britney Spears cooing and wagging her ass in
a schoolgirl skirt and asking to be hit, then
telling all the magazines she’s a virgin and
sharing her make-up secrets. We don’t need to
call out the National Guard to defend the
secret labs and operating rooms where
Frankensluts like Christina Aguilera are
pieced together and set loose on the world.
Promiscuous teens and strippers are the
mainstay of daytime television, where they
brawl with their moms and are sent to
Montel’s boot camp to be verbally abused by a
sergeant until they break down in tears. Teen
starlets play wholesome roles in prime-time
and do acne commercials in a towel until the
day finally comes when they can take off
their shirts at the cineplex for one last big
paycheck before oblivion.
To me, Eminem is as American as Bugs Bunny
and Friday the 13th. Seen in the context of
our hypersexualized culture, the problem is
clearly not that he’s obscene but that he
speaks the truth. The censors who object to
words like "bitch" and
"faggot" are really objecting
to the idea that a poor kid from Detroit
should be given a public voice. They are
objecting to freedom of expression for people
who actually talk like that. It’s like when a
ruling power tries to extinguish the language
and culture of a colonized people, replacing
Gaelic, Hindi or Swahili with English, only
in this case it’s one English for another,
the English of hard and ugly truths being
replaced with that of politeness, hypocrisy
and lies.
To the educated classes, words are
everything. A few harsh words or images can
shatter their delicate nerves. Eminem, in
contrast, does not believe that words cause
violence; he believes in individual
responsibility. Parents jump when he just
says boo, giving themselves away as humorless
cowards. They don’t give kids enough credit
to think they can tell the difference between
a put-on and the real thing. I’m not sure
they know the difference themselves.
In 1999’s “Guilty Conscience,” Eminem and Dr.
Dre play the devil and angel on the shoulder
of three men, one about to rob a convenience
store, another planning to drug a young girl
for sex, and a third who has just caught his
wife in bed with another man and wants to
kill her. It’s one of the many songs in which
Eminem puts Dre down right to his face. Dre
is the voice of reason, while Eminem argues
that it’s okay to kill the cashier because
she herself couldn’t care less if you live or
die, to screw the girl because fifteen is
past puberty, and to cut off your wife’s head
if she decides to cheat on you. Sure, it’s
scary, but it’s important to remember Eminem
is the guy who wrote the song, both parts,
not just the one he plays. Attacking him for
it would be like trying to burn Arthur Miller
at the stake for writing a play about
witches. Because of his honesty and
intensity, Eminem paints the devil as a
self-portrait; because of society’s
hypocrisy, they blame him for what he sees
when he looks at the world. Regardless of the
bad or good advice it contains, the real
message of the song is to think before you
act.
“Drug Ballad” presents both sides of the drug
question so fully it’s practically an
anti-drug song, warning of spinal damage from
ecstasy and alcohol poisoning. The famous
song in which he brutally kills his wife,
“Kim,” is such a terrifying representation of
madness, emotional confusion and the
obsessiveness of love that the actual
physical violence in it is relatively
inconsequential. Drugs and murder are
anything but cool here. Instead of preaching
at us to try to love everyone, Eminem reminds
us that loving anyone too much can drive you
insane and destroy you.
The liberals who blame porno and rap for the
social ills they portray simply don’t want to
look at the problem. Their solution to
poverty is to not see, hear or speak of it,
and to ban the words required to do so. Don’t
ask, don’t tell could replace E Pluribus Unum
as our national motto, and our flag would
show a broom sweeping unpleasant thoughts
under the edge of a lifted rug.
Politicians betray their lack of faith in
democracy when they try to shut a viewpoint
down instead of engaging with it. In France
Chirac is afraid to debate Le Pen. Why not
meet him face-to-face and say race is a myth,
immigrants make valuable contributions and
the solution to unemployment is to create new
jobs rather than expelling foreigners?
Racism is a serious problem, but it is
nothing compared to the genuine threat of a
legislated state morality eliminating all
personal freedoms. The American mind is in
periodic danger of being shut down in the
name of child safety by a hysterically
overconcerned group of parents, teachers and
Washington wives. Prejudice should be fought
with education, not used as a pretext for
censorship.
We can’t outlaw hatred with the stroke of a
pen, and perhaps we shouldn’t even try. In
the end it might even turn out we need it for
something. As Emerson said, “The doctrine of
hatred must be preached as the counteraction
of the doctrine of love when that pules and
whines.” What fakers like the Beatles and U2
give us is an unearned idea of love, a
cynical lie peddled by born sell-outs. Their
religion of instant love is a fraud, as is
the image of a world of love without hatred.
When I hear Eminem coming out of a car
stereo, my heart soars; that’s my national
anthem. The F.C.C. controls the airwaves but
they can’t control the streets, the
Blaupunkts and the boomboxes. Maybe Eminem
isn’t even really saying what he thinks, just
what he thinks will piss people off, but
either way the principle is the same: let him
have his say.
Bono’s only real message is
I’m-saying-something-nice. He doesn’t have to
make sense and you don’t have to listen
carefully because both of you already know
what is being said and neither of you believe
it: Yes, life is wonderful and yes, we are
all still passionate if rather incoherent.
Bono gets away with vague nonsense because
all he is really giving you is permission to
pretend to feel the way you wish you felt, he
is giving the signal for two minutes of cheap
joy not essentially that different from the
two minutes of authoritarian hate that Orwell
warned about. His vagueness authorizes your
inattention and everybody wins.
Once you back down and stop speaking your
mind you soon realize it isn’t worth the
trouble to formulate your thoughts if you
aren’t going to express them, and the next
thing you know you don’t have thoughts
anymore, just a dull rage you struggle to

the rewards of silence are immediate and
obvious. Suddenly you get along with
everyone. There is no evil in the world, only
opportunity.

hard to get it back. To make it back to

sort your confusion into words all over

opinions and to even daring to have an
