54-40 was formed in 1981. The members are Phil Comparelli, Brad Merritt, Neil Osbourne, Darryl Neudorf, and Matt Johnson. This band is from Vancouver. The name comes from James Polk's presidential slogan, "Fifty-Four Forty or Fight." In 1981 when the band was fromed, it was just Merritt, Neudorf, and Osbourne. In 1984, Comparelli was added and Neudorf left the group. He was replaced by Matt Johnson. Their genre is rock and their styles are Alternative Pop/Rock, Roots Rock, Jangle Rock, and College Rock. The U.S. was not interesed in the band in 1992, so they produced a CD called "Dear Dear." They have eleven albums. They are "Set the Fire" (1984), "54-40" (1986), "Show Me" (1987), "Fight for Love" (1989), "Dear Dear" (1992), "Smilin' Buddha Cabaret" (1994), "Trusted by Millions" (1996), "Since When" (1998), Casual Viewin' (2000), "Casual Viewin' USA" (2001), and "Goodbye Flatland" (2003).
