“80 Proof? Do you mean alcohol??”
Does the name throw you off? What exactly do names do? When you hear one, do you get exactly what you expect? Probably not with 80 Proof, not until you have actually experienced their style, anyway. This Rock Reggae band straight out of Southern California has people seeing the music scene in a different way.
Definitely not living the supposed lifestyle of rock stardom, Evan, Daniel, Joel, Sean, and Aubrey came together to form the band in Fall 2005 with aspirations to jam and enjoy themselves. It was not expected for a band that devotes a lot of time playing hacky sack to earn the sound in their music they achieve, but what they do claim to have that seems to be lacking in some other emerging bands is essence.
It is the essence in their music that 80 Proof wishes to be known for. They may not look or act the way they sound in their music, but those aspects seem only to be the fluff to what should be most important. With songs that promote good and easy living, like the song, “Whiskey Beats,” showing listeners to live to the music beat of life, and a political song, “Fire Fight,” that aims to protect that life shunning the malice of war, 80 Proof wants to be known for making some flat out good listening.
Music has been caught up with trends and superficiality. 80 Proof wants to take it back to its core where people don’t need the image to like it. You think you can judge 80 Proof by their cover? Just take a seat and relax your feet, and indulge yourself into these whiskey beats.
