Perth songwriter Matt Pursell began his musical journey belting a massive drum kit in heavy metal band Predator before teaming up with a zany bunch of misfits in alternative/punk band Left Nut. This exposure to several hundred sweaty gigs in the hard-rockin’ pub circuit of Western Australia gave Matt the perspective to put together this solo project, which really is ‘A Bucket of Pus’. With his loud and proud attitude and DIY motivation, Matt laid down all the tracks on the gritty and honest release “Raw and Sore”
Some of the songs on his debut album are influenced by colourful characters he has met, as well as there being some dark but rockin’ introspective moments (Addicted to You). Songs like ‘Into the Pit’ and ‘Pig’s Arse!’ give a punk rock insight into Aussie culture. But for the most part its songs like ‘Scooter Girl’ that make you grin at his witty rhyme and larrikin sense of humour, not to mention that they’re damn hard to get out of your head!
