A little known nothing was originally formed around 1999 at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point, today only Tim Barnes, Dan Mercen and the band name remain the same. In those days many nights were spent jammin in the basement of the famed Ellis Street house. Although the band never had a chance to play a public gig, they did rock a number of basement house parties. Eventually the semester ended and the band parted ways... Dan went back to school in Milwaukee and Tim moved to Georgia. Although seperated the music never stopped. Dan continued to play drums and sat in with a couple of local Milwaukee bands. Tim honed his guitar and song writing skills while playing with 'Getaway Driver' but never forgot the humble beginings of his music career. In the spring of 2002 Tim moved back to Wisconsin and called Dan who he figured might still be in town. Since he was, it took no time at all for them to get together and start talkin' tunes. A little older and wiser they decided to reunite 'a little known nothing.' With some songs mostly written and arranged it was decided that making an album would be the first step to help promote the new sounds. A month or two later 'on the brighter side' was released. That CD gave us our first show at Riverfest in Beloit, WI. From 2002-2003 a little known nothing played a dozen shows but kept having the usual band problems that kept them from reaching their full potential. In the summer of 2004 Tim and Dan decided it would be best to cut the band in half and continue pushing forward as a duo of drums and guitar. Booking more shows as a duo, they had continued success for a little over a year (2004-2005). In the summer of 2005 an ad on Milwaukee Rocks from a bass player caught their eye. Mike Meier had recently parted ways with 'Stereo Theory' and was looking for something new. Having known of Mike from previous shows Dan and Tim sent off some emails to get Mike over for a jam. Bringing in Mike sounded natural, and its unthinkable to reminisce about the songs before him. The three recorded a three song demo with the songs: A sophists prose, Out, and Pink n baby bule. The new sound was debuted at the Main Stage's Rock 4 Lupas on August 6th, 2005. Their tight rhythms and energy are an awesome experience. The latest for a little known nothing has been participation in Emergenza, the worldwide concert organization for unsigned bands. Round 1 was held November 17th at Vnuks in Cudahy, WI where eight bands competed and four advanced to Round 2. They rocked out like usual and secured a spot which will be held in April 2006 at the Rave in Milwaukee.
Drop us a line on the chat board and we hope to see you at the next show!
