A Little Revolution started in mid 2004 when old school friends Augusta (Gussie) Miller and Doug Glanville combined to form an acoustic duet. As with most groups they started by playing covers but soon branched out and after a few months had half a dozen originals under their belt. They played for a while in this format writing most of their current material before adding Matt Heike on double bass and Lauren Allison (Nez) on drums.
The band includes a wealth of talent. Doug was classically trained since the age of four when he started learning the cello, eventually achieving his Amus. His passion for guitar took over in his teen years but cello is incorporated on many of ALR’s tracks. Matt has also been playing music since a young age and as well as bass is competent on both the cello and piano. Gussie has an unmistakable love of music and especially singing in which she has trained for many years especially focusing on Jazz. As well as this she is quite an accomplished actress. Finally Lauren (Nez) has spent the last few years studying at Sydney’s JMC academy and on top of being an amazingly talented drummer is also very efficient on guitar. Lauren also plays in two other bands making a name for themselves: By The Sea and Held.
ALR's music draws on a wide range of influences and genres. Song's like Cliche highlight the jazz influence which Gussie so loves, others like Do Not Disturb and Streetlight have a more rock driven sound which Doug brings to the group while songs like Coming Home and Take Your Time represent an acoustic compromise between several of the bands influences. The Lyrics of ALR's song's vary from love and hate to even some which are politically motivated. All these influences combine to form a fusion of energetic and sometimes intense sounds which slot in nicely with today's pop/rock and alternative playlists. |
