| A Lost Sorrow is a four piece from the O.C. Their style is truly their own with their mix of emo/indie/metal. But no one outside of the band has heard they're metal side... yet. Now for the story of A Lost Sorrow. To begin this tale, we must travel back in time to the year of 2000 A.D. when Tyler Thompson and Cam Oden were just wee lads in the fifth grade. Tyler had been playing guitar for a little while now and Cam was starting to get better at the drums. They began to rendezvous at Cam’s home. They never considered it a band, but they had a grand ‘ol time at their little “jam sessions.” As the fifth grade came to a close, and they began a new school year, they met Mike Slobom. They quickly became close companions of this young man and came to find that he played guitar. Soon enough they were leading their classroom in songs. But the thought of a band never crossed their mind until one day. They began to talk and Mike suggested the idea of a band. Tyler and Cam told him that they had been playing music together for a while, but never took it seriously. Well, the next thing you know, they are in Cam’s living room trying to get the hang of playing together. At first, Mike was sitting on the couch, watching as Tyler and Cam tried to make a good sound come out of it. But after a while Mike just decided to steal the guitar from his friend and gave a shot at it. Being the committed guy that he is, Tyler sat on the couch and played the maracas along with the music. But the maracas did not satisfy Tyler. He was on a mission: to find an instrument that would actually workout in the band. Now you have to realize, these guys did not know much about good music at the time, so they had no idea what a bass was. But thanks to the knowledge of Tyler’s dad (band manager) and Jay (band’s music consultant), Tyler ended up buying a used bass and amp. This was the start of a band named INTREPID. Soon enough the band was writing music and learning the music of other bands such as Greenday and MxPx. But they had no singer. “This was always a problem for us,” said Mike. “But we soon found George.” George Fernandez, a close friend of the band, decided to take the spot of the singer. “I’m glad he stepped up to the plate,” comments Tyler. “The band would have fallen apart without him.” And indeed it would have. But as time progressed, poor little Jorge did not fit into the whole equation, and he was soon asked to leave. “What a sport he was. He like didn’t even complain or anything,” says Cam. Guitarist, Mike Slobom, stepped in for George as lead vocalist. But now the band was in pursuit for a lead guitarist. “It was just way too hard to play some of the stuff I had to play and sing at the same time,” remarks Mike. So the band began to try out different guitarists that they knew. But none of them seemed to work out. So they just forgot about a new guitarist for the moment. In the meantime, they began to play different shows. Things seemed to be going for this young band. Later on, they decided to change their name to “A Lost Sorrow.” “The meaning? Well I guess I didn’t really think about that. I guess it’s all about the concept of losing your sorrow. I’ve learned that being depressed takes up a lot of time. And it really sucks. So basically screw sorrow, and live life to it’s fullest.” Now, the band has finally picked up a new guitarist, Tim Arthur. “He’s firkin insane. He’s only like 13, and he’s better then most of the people I know. He’s gonna work out just fine. He fits in perfectly too. He’s just as insane as we all are, so it’s all good,” says Mike about young Tim. |
