A Narcissistic Romance is a band that loves parties, drinks, and jokes, but when it comes down to their music they put aside all of their pranks and parties and become one of the hardest working bands out there. Skipping work and school just to pick up tickets for a show, or play a show for that matter. When it comes to music they give their 110% plus more, nothing is more important to them than their music.
Formed in early 2004 under the name Dead Romance. They first started out as a duo with Kevan on vocals and guitar and Brandon on drums. With influences like Blink 182, New Found Glory, and The Offspring, they started out playing pop-punk. The songs were short, catchy, and pretty much all the same three chords laughs Kevan, It was a lot of fun to play then, but just got boring after awhile and our musical tastes also started to change. After playing a few songs and getting a gig opening for Crowned King on the Rockers For Knockers tour, they decided it was time to find a bassist and complete their line up. That wasnt the only thing to change in the band, in September 2004 after learning about two other bands that also shared the same name as them, they decided it was time for a new name and A Narcissistic Romance was chosen. And in December of 2004 Kevan and Brandon recorded five songs, three of which would be used on the first ever demo from the band. The songs used on the demo were Not Another High School Crush, Dear Mr. Grim, and All Hope Lost. Not Another High School Crush went on to be featured on the XROXXs Rocks Vol. 2 Compilation CD in the United States.
After a long year of searching for a bass player they finally got the break they were looking for. Adam Ryan, owner of local label Mongoose Records, introduced the band to Justin Keenan, and after a quick practise, they realised this is the guy for the job. Now the line-up was complete, for the time being. After the addition of Justin to the band, their pop-punk songs slowly started to die out. There wasnt the same drive to create pop music anymore. Instead their creative drive turned to Metal and Hardcore. With influences ranging from anything like Iron Maiden, Silverstein, and Darkest Hour, the songs became a lot heavier. But something was still missing, something just wasnt there, and after a long talk they decided it was time to add a second guitarist to the line-up, and in August of 2005 Tommy Barber became the newest member of A Narcissistic Romance.
After playing as many shows as they could get on in the ending months of 2005 and beginning of 2006, opening up for bands like The Black Maria, and The Weekend, they decided it was time for a break to write new material. So they took February and March off and wrote a bunch of new songs and at the end of March they headed into Mastermind Studios in Hamilton, Ontario and recorded their first professional CD. The EP titled Broken Battle Scenes featured the songs Revenge, Scatter The Ashes, Broken Battle Scenes, Empty Promises, The Streets Are Painted Red, and Swallow Your Pride. Since the recording they been playing almost every weekend, and in the summer of 2007 plan to tour across Canada. |
