AC/DC - the main explanation for the name, was that the members got it off an electronic product, AC meaning alternating current, DC meaning Direct Current.
It all started off with these 5 members:
Bon Scott - Vocals
Brothers; Angus Young - Lead Guitar and
Malcolm Young - Guitar
Mark Evans - Bass
Phil Rudd - Drums
The band was formed in Australia in 1973, Malcolm and Angus started off, then got Mark to join and play bass. Bon joined and played drums, but there were problems getting a vocalist, so the boys convinced Bon to do the vocals instead, and got Phil to do the drums.
(and a fine job Bon did)
Angus and Malcolm being born in Glasgow, Scotland, moved to Sydney, Australia early in their lives, Bon was born in Scotland. Phil and Mark were born in Australia.
AC/DC became a fairly popular band in Sydney, Bon became very comfortable doing the vocals, and the band was on a rise, as they released their album "High Voltage". With the biggest hits being "It's A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)" and "T.N.T.", AC/DC was ready to hit America.
AC/DC released their first American album, "High Voltage" on September 28, 1976. Rolling Stone magazine was not impressed at all, their review on the album came out the same year on December 16, labelling the album and the band, an all time low in hard rock.
AC/DC's second album, "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" was released, the popular song being "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap", "There's Gonna Be Some Rockin'", "Ain't No Fun (Waiting Round To Be A Millionaire)", "Rocker", and the, maybe over-exaggerating, "Big Balls" The album was more successful than the first release.
AC/DC then released, "Let There Be Rock"
featured hits like "Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be", "Bad Boy Boogie", "Problem Child", and of course "Let There Be Rock", AC/DC is getting as big as ever at the time, getting more respect, led on to the next album...
"Powerage", another fine hit getting AC/DC that much bigger, showing what they can do, and sticking it up to Rolling Stone Magazine, with their comments on the debut album, this one featured the hits like, "What's Next To The Moon", "Sin City" and "Rock 'N' Roll Damnation.
1979, AC/DC makes history, releasing the 5th album with AC/DC, (final with Bon Scott unfortunately) The album that made AC/DC, NOT A SECOND of space wasted on this one, "Highway To Hell", featuring the hits, "Girls Got Rhythm", "Shot Down In Flames", "Touch Too Much", "Beating Around The Bush", "If You Blood (You've Got It), "Walk All Over You", "Get It Hot", "Love Hungry Man", "Night Prowler", and of course, "Highway To Hell". One of the finest albums in rock history and arguably the best with Bon Scott. Not to mention, it sold over a million copies in the US alone, that's right, where are those Rolling Stone writers now?
Yes, AC/DC are big now, "Nothing can stop them, NOTHING!"
February 18, 1980, Bon Scott was found dead in his car, it was called, "death by misadventure", he went out drinking, and choked on his own vomit. (R.I.P. Bon Scott)
So, is AC/DC over? it felt impossible, you're at the top, and then at the bottom in one night. Over? yes? no? not by a long shot.
AC/DC hired singer Brian Johnson, formerly with a band called "Georgie", Bon saw them play once and he was very impressed, so AC/DC figured, if Brian impressed Bon, then he was good enough. But would AC/DC be as big?
AC/DC is now;
Brian Johnson - Vocals
Angus Young - Lead Guitar
Malcolm Young - Guitar
Cliff Williams - Bass
Phil Rudd - Drums
July, 1980, AC/DC releases "Back In Black", on October 13th, AC/DC sixth album is certified Platinum (by 1984, it had sold over 5 million copies, today, it stands at over 19 million copies) The album featured hits like "Hells Bells", "What Do You Do For Money Honey", "Back In Black" and "You Shook Me All Night Long". Back In Black is considered the best AC/DC album, and was recently voted number 2 most inluential album of all time. Pretty damn good. So after losing everything they had, they had won the war.
Summer, 1981, AC/DC releases "For Those About To Rock We Salute You" was the third consecutive big hit by AC/DC, featuring hits like "Inject The Venom", "C.O.D.", "Evil Walks" and "For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)"
AC/DC has made it, the following albums were released in the future, "Flick Of The Switch", "Fly On The Wall", "Who Made Who", "Blow Up Your Video", "The Razor's Edge", "Ballbreaker", and "Stiff Upper Lip". All featuring great songs.
AC/DC is one of the best rock bands ever, if not the best, the way they performed, the way the went through the hardest times, even today, people still buy AC/DC albums, they are still a very popular band, and always will be.
AC/DC truly defines Rock and Roll.

| Well you seem like a nice enough person who just wants to express their opinion judging by some of your other posts.
I DON'T go to rap forums even though some dickheads have accused me of doing that. I don't like rap.
I know you don't like rock, that's up to you but can I ask you something though?
Do you like it even a little bit?
You know why I hate rap, I said why in some other posts.
It's good that you're prepared to have a normal discussion unlike some of the other wankers that come on here and say that they hate rock and then they just piss off.
| thunderstruck | hell ya i like abit of rock i used ot be a prityt big fan...altho i kidna went from pop to rap...dont kill me for diss but i have alot of linkin park cause i used to really like em....paparoach has 2 songs i like scars and last resort...sumtimes when i hear a random rock song it just gets me going sumtimes like headstrong by trapt just rap just means more to me...but me and you r the only 1s on these forums so just talk in this one so we dont gotta keep switching, but ya i do listen to sum rock i used to listen to alot more so i no wat its about...and hells bells, highway to hell and back in black iv herd many times at my friends house...just dont really like it | musicman_m37 | lol i just read ur profile you are from australia i guessed right..thats cool tho im canadian. Ausis canadiand brits its all the same..im down for american music to tho thats where ppl live thats where album sales happen | musicman_m37 | "hell ya i like abit of rock i used ot be a

sumtimes like headstrong by trapt just rap

Are you saying that you like abit abit of rock but rap means more to you or did I misinterpret that?
Just out of curiousity.. how did you know I was from Australia before you checked my profile?
The charts are based on new music so that's why old music isn't there.
When you look up top 100 songs of all time you will see many rock n roll classics.
| thunderstruck | ya i no the charts are based on new songs thats wat im talking bout new songs rap will get on the top charts all time its jsut climbing its way up it started as social black outcasts and now its becoming sumthing huge..its gone from being just punks talking to accualy music that media and ppl love...old rock ya i no its classic but its old now were a new generation...rap right now as we are spewaking is selling more and on more charts...lol and i new u were australia cause u kept saying "mate" ill say i think ausi accent is cool tho i no alot of aussis...and ya rap isnt big down there i no i was looking at charts so no wonder u saying rock is more popular...worldwide tho rap is like africa china jamaica...man all them asian ppl are into rap and every black and alot of whites (like myslef) | musicman_m37 | in ur other post you said ppl like you will pass it on like old rock so itll be around,,,not all paretns pass it around sumthing jsut doesnt stop being made and keep going like fewer paretns will pass it on each time my paretns didnt really tell me bout old rock alot of kids in no looked into it a bit didnt like it and backed out...so ya not every kid will hear bout it but rap is in the now everybody nos about it | musicman_m37 | "not all paretns pass it around
sumthing jsut doesnt stop being made and keep
going like fewer paretns will pass it on each
time my paretns didnt really tell me bout old
rock alot of kids in no looked into it a bit
didnt like it and backed out..."
I think that it will be passed on and there are also new rock bands similar to ACDC that will keep rock n roll alive 'JET' for example.
| thunderstruck | ya but all those rock n roll bands arent getting nearly as popular as the rappers...adn also Jet is one of the only mainstream ones like AC/DC most rock now is punk | musicman_m37 | rock i no is at sum major events but 1 fact
you gotta face up to is album sales you cant
justify wat you are saying: here is a list of
the albums that sold the most this week
1)faith hill, fireflies (r and b) 2)now 19
mixed cd which has 11 rap. r and b, 4 pop, 5
rock...so mainly rap/ r and b 3)mariah carry
(pop) 4) young jezzy (rap) 5)teira marriah
(r and b) 6)kids bop kids (not sure)
7)coldplay (rock) 8)black eyed peas, monkey
business (rap/r and b) 9)breakaway, kelly
klarkson (pop) 10)demon days, gorillaz (trip
hop) dont realy no wat that is but its like
rap and pop....so only 1 rock album is in the
top 10...so yeah dont say rock is more
popular...i could point u out to sum charts
too if you want but i dont think i need to iv
made my point...but ya sum places rock just
suits it more and i admit that like at
wakestock if they had been playing rap id be
like wtf...but they played rock and it was
cool rock suites sum things rap suites sum
things...but ultamitly according to album
sales charts and popularity more ppl like
rap, and r and b
i no i said that in the other forum i just dont like carrying on both forums and writing different stuff | musicman_m37 | "but ultamitly according to album
sales charts and popularity more ppl like
rap, and r and b"...
Music doesn't have to be on the charts to be good, and I'll admit alot of people like the kind of music that you're into but like I said in one of my previous posts, ACDC and alot of other classic rock bands are still adored by many today.
Velvet revolver is a modern band made up of afew of the old members of guns n roses and look how successful they are.
Another reason why I hate rap is because it's basically just someone TALKING to a beat that usualy isn't their own. I think I mentioned that before though.
| thunderstruck | ya i understand why you hate rap and i respect that..and thats why sumtimes a rock song does sum events better...and i do listen to rock i just dont like it nearly as much as rap and r and b. But i no those bands may be adored by many still im not saying nobody likes them im just saying more ppl like rap and r and b...and thats a fact to but i no sum ppl still like old rock but not as many that like rap and r and b...and to say rap is just talking to a beat is like saying rock is just 4 guys slamming on instruments as loud as they can and screaming...you wouldnt talk the way they rap and rap all rhymes and it fits the beat to so they say sum syllables longer and stuff...its not just talking | musicman_m37 | I think just as many people like rock because I still see people in my suburb with rock related stickers on the windows of their cars and people with rock related badges and patches on their bags and clothes. That's not just afew people but alot.
There is a difference between talking with abit of a tune and singing.
When rockers play their instruments, yes they do slam them hard but it sounds good because they have to quickly change chords and stuff. Also, it takes alot of talent to play an amazing solo on a guitar and to make it sound awesome and I also think that the vocals of rock singers is amazing. | thunderstruck | k of your statements i agree with you in the fact that rock takes more talent and sumtimes it sounds cool when they break out an instrument solo...but orck vocals are not as hard to write but theyre voices do sound amazing...rock 4 sure takes more talent than rap. The point that i dont agree with you in tho is that as many ppl like rock as rap that is a false point you gotta read up a bit maby in ur lil town more ppl like rock but iv researched worldwide charts and album sales...sure U2 sold huge with there album and coldplay is doing mighty fine, but 50 cent, the game, eminem, usher, and snoopdogg beat out them all..cept maby U2, more so rap is popular in america...which is the place that music is distributed most in, but also worldwide rap is the biggest kidna music more ppl can relate to it...even pop is bigger than rock mariah carry has like 4 hit songs right now not all in the top 10 (like 50 did) but they still all huge...rock is near the bottom no doubt a lot of ppl still like it but if they did alot more bands would come out like AC/DC and metallica there is maby a few modern day bands and none of htem are huge in success...where as there are tons of sucessful rappers...popularity= rap, pop, r and b, rock....thats the order according to the world i dunnowat ur city or town or w.e you live in is but thats the worlds statistics...but ya i do accually listen to sum rock its kidna like i liek rugby and football both but i like football more but rugby fans diss football alot of me...so i havta diss rugby back and point out its weak points even tho i still like it..just i like football more...thats kinda my story with rock and rap | musicman_m37 | so ya for more popular i was talking to this with sum guy names "paparoach" and he said he never backed down on anything to do with rock but he said he even admited at this point and time rap and r and b are most popular (he said it was becasue of faggots like me its like that) but he still said it. And i try not to back down either being a rap fan but i have expiereinecd rock as well and will admit it is alot harder to make writing the own instrumetns instead of taking a beat...taht is y rap albums have like 20 songs and most rock albums have 10-13 songs. Rap albums also come out alot faster...because rock takes longer to make and create..and ya overall making it a team effort it does take alot more effort and "talent" than rap, but to say all rock ppls work together (like in a band) and that rap is all individual isnt true rappers and r and b artists collaberate on songs together and help eachother out too...in fact every genre cept country and rock pritty much have collaberations. (emeinem and dr dre work together on many songs....2 rappers) the song yeah usher feat. ludacriss and lil john (an r and b artist, a rapper, and a crunk artist. Dirty by cristina agulara feat. redman (a pop artist feat. a rapper) so they work together to but its more independant verses where as rock the whole song is a team effort | musicman_m37 | heres my opinions.
ok it seems that in rock music [not newer stuff] that the band members acctually have a talent or a purpose or a goal in life and they express themselves in music wonderfully. i think it does take more talent with the guitar, and bass, and drums, and vocals. to be a vocalist in a rock band you really have to be great to make your band popular. [EX: robert plant, axl rose, bruce dickinson, bon scott] they all have unique fastinating voices that really seep into your soul with some songs. as for the instruments u must be very talented as well. now as for rap its usually a pissed off guy simply talking in a smart-ass kind of way and seems like they just dont even really have talent. ALso most of rap is just about sex. get low this n baby do that n lemme see this and swears constantly. i mean theres nothing wrong with songs about that kind of thing but that seems to be all that rap is tearing up the charts doing. when rock has a purpose. i mean listen to the lyrics in a song like november rain by guns n roses or achilles last stand by zeppelin. thats 2 off the top of my head out of 100s that give me chills just thinking about the purpose of writing them or the way they sing it or emotionally how they feel. i find it brilliant. then on the other hand, the just fast paced hard rock about sex and things just sounds cool to me and the guitar and bass and drums are usually great. i just feel rap doesnt take as much effort or talent. i think that i can just go in a studio write some crazy lyrics then just roll them off my toung and i'd have a hit single. | CrazyGNRfan | i see you've mentioned the band trapt. their terrible. bottom line. see bands like them are [the new stuff] thats not music. unfortunatley thats what most of the rock your exposed to these days sounds like. | CrazyGNRfan | on the not as many people like rock as rap thing i disagree. most adults like rock. then about half kids/teens lik rock. that leaves just another half of kids/teens to like rap. idk i just think more people like rock all though if you walk down the street and see a group of teens and say what do you listen to? the answer most likely will be rap. i think thats because the real rock bands are getting old and slowing down with making album when rappers are constantly ammerging these days on mtv and vh1 | CrazyGNRfan | your rong in saying rock is more popular i dont see how you ppl cant see this RAP SELLS ALBUMS AND TOPS CHARTS!!!! end of story. More people listen to rap so albums sell and people vote for rap videos. Rock ya takes more talent but to say rap is all about sex is a very steriotypical thing to say. Better days (bout not giving up becasue life will get better) for example...if you want me to i could post you sum more songs not about sex or violence...just look at sum tupac....ghetto gospel, changes, thugz mansion (the title is missleading) are all about either God, making our world rid of poverty and crime, or another good moral. And some rock songs talk about hell and bad stuff too. And if you think you could rite a selling rap song write down some lyrics for me. Ya maby more aldults listen to rock cause rap wasnt around back then but ppl 20 and under majorly a rap crowd...and most adults do not listen to alot of music or go to concerts...and as time passes on more adults will tune into rap or just stop listening to music cause bands like ACDC rolling stones and u2 dont got much music making left in them | musicman_m37 | G'day, I'm back...
anyway, The charts are based on new music, but just because songs aren't on recent charts doesn't mean that they aren't adored all over the world.
"Ya maby more aldults listen to rock cause
rap wasnt around back then but ppl 20 and
under majorly a rap crowd...and most adults
do not listen to alot of music or go to
concerts..."
I'll have to disagree with you, if rap was around back then people wouldn't listen to it because people that were around back then hate it and I don't blame them... and people that were around back then do still listen to music and go to concerts.
" and as time passes on more adults
will tune into rap or just stop listening to
music cause bands like ACDC rolling stones
and u2 dont got much music making left in
them"
They may stop making music soon but like I said before that doesn't mean that their music won't live on...
| thunderstruck | if old songs were adored by people all over the world they would still be on charts just think about it it doesnt matter how old they are people will still play songs if people would listen to them. And well truth is most people do not listen to old rock anymore, people do listen to new rock but not old thats why old rock is never on any charts or anything, they arent making any more music and people want new stuff...well most anyways you can stay with your argument that rock is more popular than rap but you are completely wrong in saying htat, just look at the top 10 album sales last week i dont wanna type em out cause i did on another forum but theere was
5 rap/r and b
2 pop
2 rock
1 trip hop
And one of the rock ones (staind) was only number 1 cause it was a new release that week the week before there was only 1 rock album (coldplay)
If old rock was still adored by many wouldnt albums be selling? and radio would realize that people still love it and would play it if apparently more people like it than rap and r and b, but its not played becasue that is a false fact, and this discussion is kinda gay cause its just us 2 and i can see i wont change ur mind and you wont change mine, but hey at least i listen to some rock and accualy no what its about so i can sorta back up my argumetns | musicman_m37 | You said...
"if old songs were adored by people all over
the world they would still be on charts just
think about it it doesnt matter how old they
are people will still play songs if people
would listen to them."
That's the thing people, lots of people DO still play lots of rock n roll.
"If old rock was still adored by many wouldnt
albums be selling?"
Albums are still selling, trust me!
"and radio would realize
that people still love it and would play it
if apparently more people like it than rap
and r and b, but its not played becasue that
is a false fact,"
Rock n roll is still played on the radio ALL the time, everyday. You are wrong when you say that it isn't because it definitely is played everyday at some stage of the day.
| thunderstruck | well sorry I admit I thought mabey you knew when I was saying rock and roll isn't played anymore...I didn't litterally mean it I was exagerating that a bit. I know that rock and roll is still played and probably always will be, but it is not nearly played as much as rap/r and b, mabey where you live but I just gave you a list of the top selling albums and there were only 2 rock and no old rock bands. I could give you the top 50 selling albums this week if you want..there is still no old rock bands, and only about 10 rock bands in all. I'm sure old rock is still sold but not in the quantity that you say it is. And of course radio will still play there is many radio stations tons of music of all genres is played, but most mixed radio stations will play more rap..And radio countdowns, at least big ones, always go in the favour of rap and r and b songs over rock, and that's a fact. And to tell you the truth I don't completely hate rock if I were to split my music in percentages I'd say this probably
Rap/R and B=60%
Pop=20%
New Rock=15%
Old Rock=5% | musicman_m37 | I've already argued against all those points you made.
If I were to split my music into percentages i'd definitely say 100% ROCK N ROLL!!!
:D
| thunderstruck | ya but if you new about charts and album sales you'd know all my points were correct | musicman_m37 | Sorry, but i don't agree with you, I think there are alot of people that agree with me. | thunderstruck | yea thats why AC/DC's albums are all still in the top 10, and they are all on top of countdowns still right | musicman_m37 | I never said they were in todays top 10 or todays countdown. When I said there are alot of people that agree with me, I meant the fact that they are still adored by many. | thunderstruck | hmmmm maby many adore them still but not as many that adore rap | musicman_m37 | | ROCK N ROLL FOREVER MAN | Noods | | Because it sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | ledzeppelinrules | | Rap sucks so much ass | Gerard_Way_way_hot | rap, pop, punk, country=pure shit.
rock/metal=the best | derith_89th2 | rap,pop,punk,country=pure shit.
rock/metal=the best | derith_89th2 | rap,pop,punk,country=pure shit.
rock/metal=the best | derith_89th2 | | ......i hate it when that happens. | derith_89th2 | i don't care what style of music, if it sounds good to you FUCK everyone else! i like it all! it's something good in all music. | bassthumper | Because rap is a completely manufactured genre of music. Notice how rap became big at the same time crack cocaine did.
Rock is the culmination of all genres of music since the early 1900's and it has spent all that time evolving and growing.
Rap came on all at once, which is why I call it manufactured. Producers saw their chance to make a quick buck off morons like you that listen to that shit. | Zerotide | These LOST SOULS hate rap cause they know we RULE! *PURE FACT* >:) | AzN_HiPhOp_bOi | hey musicman i dont know why you like rap.. is it because its in and you want to be considered part of the crowd or you really like it??
anyway .. you like rap and im fine with that .. why do you have to go around people who like rock to stop listening to it .. does it bother you that some of us are different and have a mind of our own and dont buy into corporate shit.. do you feel lost in here ?? | reptilia | have you heard "my name is (rockstar mix)" by eminem.. its so much better than the original and the riff is taken from AC/DCs "back in black" ... check it out... you'll love it. | reptilia | "These LOST SOULS hate rap cause they know we
RULE! *PURE FACT* >:)"
No we don't like it partly because douches like you like it, and I'm not into the same stuff as douchebags are. | Zerotide | Interesting! I see you also hate r&b, pop, and rice rockets as well. Aren't you cool....all that satan worshipping and obsessions of suicide has definitely paid off, that's probably why you like that rock GARBAGE so much. *PURE FACT* >:) | AzN_HiPhOp_bOi | im not gonna down on you for liking rap or not liking rock but i believe to put out a rock album is way more difficult than it is to put out a rap album. rock has to be all perfect it takes alot of skill to play like thatand rock albums anrent recorded with the whole band they are recorded on instrument at a time and you have to be a master of tempos and all that shit to play cause it your playing in speed slower the whole songs gonna blow. and Rap is just vocals dubbed over a electronic track that is so easy to put out
bottem line to record rock is way tougher and it takes way more skill
RAP KIDS GO HOME! | heavy_metal_son | thing is, with the album sales argument, people might not buy rock albums so much any more because they already own the albums they want. We just need more new rock bands making music like the old ones. I have just about all the music i like from the old classics.
hahaha, if you look up top ten albums of all time lists, you'll find a lot of beatles. | givethe_bitch_abiscuit | | Rock is the best and RAP Sucks | Zeppman88 | ROCK = NOISE, NO TALENT REQUIRED! Rap is SUPERIOR! | AzN_HiPhOp_bOi | | | |
