THE AERONAUTICAL LEGENDS
“Every record I’ve ever purchased and every song I’ve ever written has been a prelude to this” proudly proclaims The Aeronautical Legends’ Joshua Dennison, as he describes the recording of the band’s as yet untitled sophomore release. Tentatively slated for an early 2007 release, the disc will surely find The Aeronautical Legends’ in the familiar territory of the songwriting elite.
Bursting with melody and imagination, one listen to any of the songs in The Aeronautical Legends’ catalogue and you’ll want to hum along. Without being too ostentatious or indulgent, Joshua’s songs ebb and flow with emotion and an ever present power pop edge. From the simplicity and lyrical imagery crafted in songs like ‘Superman’ (from the debut record Rocketeer) to the more intense and mature offerings like ‘Amelia Earhart,’ The Aeronautical Legends deliver something that has been missing in the music scene for far too long.
“It seems like good songwriting has fallen by the wayside,” Joshua explains. “People are looking for the next energetic band with the liveliest show, but when you break it all down the songs from most of these bands just aren’t that good. I want to put the emphasis back on songwriting and not jumping around like a maniac.”
That is not to say, however, that Joshua is not a seasoned live performer. The live shows are filled with humourous banter, and are surprisingly entertaining given the fact that Joshua performs solo with just an acoustic guitar. The spotlight shines on the fantastic songwriting and clever melodies when everything is presented in such a stripped down manner.
After all, good songwriting never goes out of style.
