Alecto spent the first few months of their existence gigging in and around the Manchester area, building up a local fanbase. In this time they released their first CD - Era of the Crowd EP which was well received by local promoters and audiences alike and attracted interest from local distribution company - Emotion Records as well as being stocked in HMV Manchester as part of a showcase promoting the city’s best new acts. Following this they played a major record label showcase in Birmingham's Hard Rock Café and received encouraging praise from Devra Wright - a representative of Columbia records: "Tight band... Good vocals. I really liked Mentalist Philosophy - great vibe / energy. I thought there was something unique about Alecto"
