I was born in Heerenveen, Friesland in 1982, but I grew up in Ureterp (under the smoke of Drachten). I went to high school in Drachten, which took me 6 years 'cause of some other interests or the lack of it at that time. After graduation I decided to study 'Business', well to be more exact I studied to become an entrepreneur.
During high school at the age of 15, I wanted to learn to play the guitar. So I did. Three months later I started playing in my first band. It was a NY-hardcore band called 'Plummy', but it wasn't mend to be so they kicked me out after 1 month. Can't really blame them 'cause I really sucked at that point. Band less, I decided to start up my own band with my best friend, who happened to play drums. The band was called 'Boneass' after a skateboard trick. Because of other interest we broke up after a year. Janco, the drummer, and I didn't want to give up playing music so we started a new band 'Atama'. We were strongely influenced by bands like Lagwagon, NUFAN and Undeclinable. So we started playing pop-punk.
After multiple band name changes and line-up changes, the core of the band consists out of Janco Klijnstra , Eelke Hoogeveen and Willem Bos. I can't forget about Robert de Vries though 'cause he helped shape the band in the beginning. At the end we played a fusion of punk, pop, emo and rock. We participated in a couple of talentshows and got pretty good comments, but never won. We reached the finals twice though.
In 2004 I decided to travel to Australia to live with my girlfriend Nicola for a while. Being down-under and taking in the musical atmosphere over there, changed my musical taste dramatically. I started listening to singer/songwriters like Jack Johnson, Pete Murray & John Butler Trio. So when I came back to Holland, I threw up a little ball about a musical turnaround. And we turned around about 180 degrees. We put away our electric guitars and started playing acoustic music. But under a different name 'Next Fifty Miles'. NFM hasn't brought out a cd yet, but we're writing a lot of new material at the moment. You can listen to a couple of the new songs if you open the MP3 player.
During the summer of 2005 Willem Bos and Alex started up a acoustic project called "Curbside Prophets". More news will follow!!
