Alex Parks (born on July 26 1984) is a British singer who rose to fame after winning the popular TV talent show \'Fame Academy\' in 2003.
Parks began writing songs when she was just fifteen. She performed in a local band called One Trick Pony while she was in college. It was during this time that she was introduced to indie and folk music and Parks began to learn how to play the guitar. The band later broke up, but Parks\' passion for music remained.
Her father submitted an application for \'Fame Academy\' on her behalf which he later said was a \'spur-of-the moment action\'. Parks ended up winning the competition, the main prize being a recording contract with Polydor worth a million pounds. Her debut single, \'Maybe That\'s What It Takes\' reached number three in the UK charts in November 2003.
Her second single \'Cry\' was released in February 2004 and did noticeably worse in the charts. Parks retired from her career for eighteen months to work on her second album. \'Honesty\' was released in October 2005, although this did extremely poorly in the UK album charts, only reaching number twenty-four. Some industry critics blame lack of support from her record label as well as poor distribution.
In February 2006, Parks ended her contract with Polydor. It is known that she has received offers from other independent record labels, although she has taken a break to consider her possible options. Her management team confirmed in November 2006 that Alex Parks is still extremely dedicated to her musical career. |
