The Alleycats are a six piece 50s style rock'n'roll band featuring Johnny Valentino on lead vocals/rhythm guitar, Drew Spikes on lead vocals/bass, Mick 'Guitar' Murphy on vocals/lead guitar, Rusty Lupton on vocals/piano, Butch Evarts on tenor sax/percussion/rubber chicken and Gerard Barte on drums. These are all very experienced musicians, most of whom have been playing roots rock'n'roll for many years now.
The band is based in London, England, and travel all over the UK. They also take an occasional trip across the channel to the rest of Europe.
The Alleycats, not to be confused with other bands with similar names, started in 1998 as a quartet, but Drew on bass is the only survivor of that line-up. He has brought in ex-colleagues from previous days to make up the happy family that is the Alleycats. Johnny Valentino and Butch Evarts used to be with Drew during the 70s in a rock'n'roll/doo-wop band called Yakety Yak. Mick was with him as part of rock'n'roll/jump jive band Sonny King & the Sons Of Swing during the 80s. Rusty Lupton used to be with rockabilly rebels, Matchbox back in the mid 70's - just before they got famous! Later he toured with Chuck Berry's backing band for a while. Newest recruit is drummer, Gerard Barte, who replaces Alan Jordan. Gerars is a native of Paris, France, but has lived and played in England for many years now.
The Alleycats' huge repertoire covers a very broad range of 50s music, including lots of the classic stuff, but covering rockabilly through to doo-wop.
Their CD 'Alley Palais', however, contains 75% of their own songs, though they're all still in good old rock'n'roll mode.
