A California pop act with a difference, Ambrosia's soft set was spiced up by a few harder-to-classify numbers. Fueled by the sometime participation of Alan Parsons at the mix desk, the group charted with soft rock standards like "How Much I Feel" and "Biggest Part Of Me", much in the vein of Firefall or 10cc. But the self-titled debut from 1975 was spiked with two songs worthy of note: "Nice Nice Very Nice" and "Holdin' On To Yesterday". 'Nice' concerned an outlook lifted from the edgy novels of Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. which suggested a sort of karma among specific groups of individuals. Vonnegut himself reportedly worked in the studio with the group, assisting in getting the references to his own writing right. There was also "Holdin' On To Yesterday", unusually southern-blues influenced for a California band. Do a lyrics search on this last song for a taste of powerful writing.
