Among the Decayed – Demo – 2006
September 2006 Crave Northwest
By Keith Bellisle
Among the Decayed brings a kettle of kill to the death metal picnic with their 2006 demo. Their material seems to stand on its own and is satisfying in its ferocious flavor. It is a very tasty mix of gore and grue, with streaks of fever and infection. They included many gizzard-frying hooks and brain-broiling break-downs to add variety. The brutality of the music simmers, and will splash on you if you are not prepared. Among the Decayed's sound stews for almost sixteen minutes and by serving time you have become part of the meal! Chomp Chomp Chomp (insert sounds of zombies feasting here) Production seemed a bit thin overall, with the vocals often struggling to break out in front of the mix. I had to turn up the volume as it seemed the record level was lower than average. It seemed like blood-sauce when it might have been bile-gravy. If these are the only areas for improvement their next release should cause spontaneous expiration upon ingestion. I'm bringing my bowl and spoon – no napkin needed.
