| Gateshead-based Andy May has been playing the Northumbrian pipes for over 14 years and has won the Northumbrian Piper's Society Open Competition an unprecedented nine times in a row, currently a record. Originally schooled by two of the North of England's most respected pipers, Andy is now himself a pipe tutor and competition judge. The 14 selections here, many of them medleys combining arrangements of traditional pieces with newer compositions, are augmented by Simon Haworth (guitar), Kathryn Tickell (fiddle,viola), Simon James (Northumbrian pipes) and Stan May (harmonica). A release to further enhance the reputation of a piper who is already considered a master of the instrument. |
