Apollo Quartet, formed in the Summer of 2002, set out to create widely accessible, yet strikingly original music- to provide a breath of fresh air for the world of rock and roll. With a full-length debut produced by legendary indie producer J Robbins and almost three years of highly electric live performances under their belt, Apollo Quartet is poised to excel on a national level.
The group is relatively young, but its roots go deep. Singer/songwriter Wes Jones and drummer Chris Marine began writing and performing at the very young age of 13, and have played in numerous bands of various styles before realizing this culmination. Their tandem understanding of one another contributes greatly to the maturity of Apollo Quartet’s musical approach. Bassist Josh Jenkins, also highly trained in his trade, joined Jones and Marine before guitarist Sam Marine, Chris’s brother, provided the final piece.
Apollo’s blend of beautiful and introspective melodies, harmonically dynamic guitars, a slightly angular approach and head-nodding rhythms can be attributed to influences such as Sunny Day Real Estate, Jawbox, Fugazi and even Stone Temple Pilots.
Currently, Apollo Quartet is playing shows constantly. Tour is priority, as is distribution of the aforementioned album, The Eleventh Hour, which has recently held position as an editors’ pick at cdbaby.com and has received favorable press reviews (see below). New and exciting material from Apollo Quartet is also in the works. Updated show listings, music, reviews, merchandise, and all other info can be found at www.apolloquartet.com.
