| The Arsens were created in the late of 2002 in West Lafayette, Indiana. Only months later an album,
Test Sessions, was produced. It is now arguably the greatest lo fi album of all time.
With influences from Nirvana, The Flaming Lips, Meat Puppets, The Toadies and Beck, The Arsens
have a diverse quality that is hard to match to other bands. Their debut album Test Sessions is mainly
a tribute to Nirvana and Meat Puppets. However, their live show is much different. Punk and modern jazz
music that cannot be heard on Test Sessions is also played. Punk songs like House, Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes"
and The Queers' "We've Arrived on Heroin" and modern jazz like Huckleberry Hound,
influenced by Herbie Hancock's "Watermelon Man", are crowd favorites.
The band began with the meeting of two friends, Aaron Molden and Aaron Wright, at a
drawing class in Harrison High School. After a short thinking process, the duo came up with the name Poop.
Needless to say, this alias did not last long. They finally picked the name The Arsens, intentionally
mispelled from it's influence word, "Arson". Practices were finally held in the basement of Aaron Wright's
parents' house. After a period of months the album, Test Sessions was finally completed. Shortly after,
drummer, Ted Wiley, was recruited. His jazz and punk influenced drumming put a new spin on The Arsens
live show and sound. Soon after they lost there new found drummer to the Cheese State. This is when they stop
playing live and concentrated on recording.
Today, The Arsens are working on their second, soon to be released, album Cow Punk. |
