| ART I MISS has been known for projecting stories over progressive and powerful production. He refines and defines his sound with inspiring, haunting and unforgettable lyrics.
As a student of hip-hop since age 6, his years growing up through a government housing project eventually influenced his rhymes and lifestyle. Raised by a single mother, grandmother, and two uncles, ART I MISS grew up in a household where all types of music would be played. His grandmother listened to records such as Kenny Rogers, Sam Cook and Pat Boom while his mother would listen to older R&B and reggae.
What stood out the most for ART I MISS were the different sounds of hip-hop his uncle played. His Uncle Val had a shoebox of tapes that ART I MISS would steal just to hear the sounds of original boom-bap risking the chance of getting beaten up had he gotten caught.
ART I MISS also saw Val dressed up in what was considered the traditional b-boy apparel. Val would sport Adidas without shoelaces, rope gold chains, jump suits and Kangol hats looking like the rappers ART I MISS would idolize and study on TV.
With unpaid bills and the stress of ART I MISS’s mother getting a job, the only thing that brought him joy in his depressive mind state was hip hop.
Looking for answers he could not find, ART I MISS found peace once converting to Islam at the young age of 16. Feeling alone after deciding to join, ART I MISS realized he wasn’t, listening to artists such as Big Daddy Kane, Brand Nubian, Divine Styler etc. rappers who incorporated their music with Islamic teachings.
ART I MISS has been developing his talents along side an up and coming producer from small town Connecticut, OPTIMUS PRYME. Optimus dedicated his focus to experimenting with compositions that blended sounds of nature with beats and riffs creating an exceptional production that perfectly introduced organic sound with technology.
ART I MISS and OPTIMUS have found the perfect opportunity to combine their experiences and knowledge creating an evocative fusion of hip-hop music that all walks of life can relate to.
