Marketing Online Outline For Promoting Your New Album on iSound
I get asked a lot for ideas on how to go about promoting a new album so I wrote up a pretty basic online marketing plan that you can use as a template when promoting a new album. It is simple but if you can follow the week to week roll out, you will be happy with the outcomes. Alter as you see fit to meet your needs.

Tools you will need

*iSound Loud Artist - Allows you to upload up to 100 songs
*iSound Mp3 Sales Subscription - Allows you to sell your mp3s via your artist profile
*B-Sides/Acoustic Versions/Demo Versions - It is important to have alteast 2 mp3 bonus tracks to use for promotional purposes and one track from the new album that you can use for promotional purposes
*Graphic Designer to make all of your assets
*Photos & Video from the recording process
*New Photo Shoot
*Press Release for the new album. Tips for creating a press releases can be found here.

Week One

*New Album Blog Launches
*Post a picture from the recording process (with a link to your iSound Profile for more pictures from the studio)'
*Post thoughts and inspiration behind the making of the new album
*Talk about the excitement the band has behind the new album
*Let them know new music is coming
*Music Blogs
*Create a list of music blogs that fit your band's genre of music. Technorati.com is a great resource for finding blogs on any topic.

Week Two

*Video
*Create a video with footage and pictures from the recording process. The soundtrack to the video should include snippets from one or two tracks from the new album. Video should end with the bands iSound url
*Post this video on Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, iSound
*Music Release Schedule
*Let your fans know you will be posting new songs every Sunday night (you pick the day) for the next few weeks
*New Photoshoot
*Upload pictures from the bands new photoshoot on iSound and encourage everyone to check them out and add you as a friend.
*Send Press Release
*Press Release should go to all your local weeklies, music mags, zines, and the list of music blogs you identified. Press Release should include info about the band, iSound artist link and the release schedule for the album. Include a zip file of the digital album for review purposes only. And identify one track that can be used as a free download on their sites.
*Post a contest aimed at increasing your mailing list. - Free acoustic version of a new track for signing up for the mailing list

Week Three

*Post 3 New Songs
*Create a blog Post dedicated to the new songs
*Invite your supporters to post their thoughts on the new music
*Street team Challenge - Signed merch, Band Shirt or maybe even an iPod to the winner of the challenge. Challenge is to promote the band. Create banners and encourage users to post the banners and your iSound Portable player all over the internet. Person who does the best job promoting the banners and iSound profile wins. Banners should link directly to your iSound profile.

Week Four

*Post 3 new songs
*Create a blog post dedicated to the new songs
*Invite your supporters to post their thoughts on the new music
*Release Music Video
*Promote view and new music on all social networks
*Send News Updates to Music blogs and include one free download that they can post on their blog from the new album. Elbo.ws is the number one mp3 blog aggregator and one of the top 16,000 websites on the internet. A great source for new artists and new music. Best way to get your music mentioned in Elbo.ws is to infiltrate the music blogs which Elbo.ws pulls it's content from. Contact some of the blogs that feed information to Elbo.ws and send them your recent news updates and include on free mp3 from your new album that they can post as a free download on their blog. Ask if they like your music and decide to post about your band to please include your iSound profile link where people can download and buy the new album.

Week Five

*Host an online chat
*Post the rest of your album on your iSound profile
*Create a blog post dedicated to the new songs
*Invite your supporters to post their thoughts on the new music
*Send a news update to Myspace, Twitter, Facebook Etc
*Include the latest updates and the information about the free demo tracks or b-sides
*Info about the online chat
*Update on how the streetteam challenge is going

Week Six

*Reviews
*Check all the music sites for reviews of your new album
*Check the blog posts comments from fans for the best reviews
*Press Release
*Send out one last press release that recaps how the album has been received and include review clips from supporters and music sites.
*Include future touring plans
*Tour Dates
*Post your upcoming tour dates and review clips from the new album to all your social networks
*Post a free b-side or demo track from the new album
*Post a Challenge
*Invite your supporters to post a video of themselves singing along to their favorite song on YouTube.

The ideas behind this marketing plan are very simple but they encourage engagement between the band and the music fans. The key is to get the fans engaged and invested. This plan is perfect for a band with a small budget. The most expensive part of this plan is coming up with some ideas for contests. iPod Shuffles are under $80 dollars, band merch shouldn't be to expensive etc. Graphics and Videos can be made with free online tools. If you need more help with video and graphics, reach out to your local community colleges and find someone who is an art major to help you. They can always use things to help their portfolio.

Any questions? Send them to alex@isound.com
