Tuesday, August 5th, 2008 Tracking The Traffic To Your Website As your do your marketing and promotion it is important to track your success and know who is visiting your site.
Some tools to help you track your traffic
Google Analytics
www.google.com/analytics
Example from analytics:
Allows you to track all your traffic and let's you know where the clicks are coming from.
Google Alerts
www.google.com/alerts
Let's you know whenever your band is mentioned on the internet.
Here is a scenario in which both of these tools will be helpful. Lets say that you decide to run a banner ad on a music site like iSound.com. This results in Jason clicking on the banner and becoming a fan of your band. Jason happens to run a small music blog and decides to blog about your band. Google Analytics will show you where all the traffic is coming, by city, state, region, age and even the time of day. This will help you to analyze the effectiveness of your advertising and marketing. Google Alerts on the other hand will scour the internet and let you know whenever anyone mentions your band including Jason's blogpost about your band. If you know when people are talking about your band you can respond accordingly. In this situation it might be a good idea to reach out to Jason who runs the music blog, send him some cds, offer to do a contest on his site etc.
Currently Google Analytics cannot be installed on Myspace. For Myspace users try using getclicky.com which is free and will allow you to track your Myspace Traffic.
