Hailing from Las Vegas, Nevada, Ashbury is one of the hottest alternative rock bands to hit the music scene this decade. With ties to notable artists such as Fall Out Boy and The Cab, they are a force that can no longer be ignored, and they are ready to make a scene. Formed by brothers Brian and Jeremy Lee in 2005, Joey Resly was quick to join in, as Patrick Wylde followed in 2006 and Lenny Lujan was the last piece to the puzzle, joining in 2008.
The band first found success when they won both a local and the subsequent national “Have a Nice Gig” contest thrown by internationally known artist Bon Jovi in 2006. After initially playing with Bon Jovi at MGM Grand Gardens in Las Vegas, Jon Bon Jovi and Ritchie Sambora personally invited the band to join them on their tour at Giant’s Stadium in New Jersey, in front of 50,000 people. Meanwhile, Las Vegas’ Mix 94.1 FM added Ashbury on their rotation, and the band spent over three weeks in their number one spot. The momentum kept building from there, as Ashbury went on to perform on national television for the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon in 2007 and 2008, and opened for several large-scale artists such as: Panic at the Disco, Jewel, Live, Collective Soul, Paramore, and many more. Most recently, Ashbury performed with The Cab and The Higher at the Las Vegas House of Blues.
Fans may have heard Ashbury on their favorite television series, as they have had six tracks licensed to various MTV shows, including: The Hills, Laguna Beach, and Pimp My Ride. Various companies including Stereo Bear Clothing, 1111AM Clothing, and Gibson Guitars, currently sponsor the band.
With two studio albums under their belt, [“City Lights” EP in 2005 and “Complacency” LP in 2006] this band is set to release their highly anticipated EP “Let’s Make A Scene” March 31, 2009. Recorded in Millbrook, New York at Millbrook Sound Studio with Producer Lou Giordano (Goo Goo Dolls, Jewel, Plain White T’s, Live, The Ataris) and Engineer Paul Orofino, the EP showcases the bands energetic, addictive and catchy tunes, while also showing the sophistication of the songwriting and passion of the musicians behind this band. Ashbury says, “We are a rock band that writes pop music, we have big choruses and vocals, and we play music that kids can identify with. A lot of it is upbeat and fun, but on the other side of the coin it is something that adults and parents can connect with too.”
In addition to supporting their music, Ashbury has worked with The Muscular Dystrophy Association through the Jerry’s Kids program to help garner funds for their organization. They have also participated in guest performances to benefit The Invisible Children Foundation, and hope to continue doing more charity work in the future.
Ashbury plans to tour nationally throughout 2009, showcase labels, and work on the release of their “Off with the Lights” LP sometime in 2010. You can also catch them this year at SXSW in Austin, Texas.
