Asian Kung-Fu Generation is made up of four members. Masafumi Gotou on Vocals and Guitar, Ijichi Kiyoshi on Drums,
Takahiro Yamada on Vocal and Bass, and last but certainly not least Kensuke Kita also on Vocal and Guitar.
In 1996 AKG was first founded by Masafumi, Kensuke, and Takahiro, the three vocalist of the group only to be joined by Ichiji. It took several years before they ever recived the popularity they have achived.
In 2000 there first works were sold exclusively online. But the shocking thing about it was that all of it was in English. In 2001 they began to advertise there song Konayuki which ended up being there first song played on the radio. Within the same year they went on to release there second indie album. But this time it featured Japanese lyrics.
In 2002 AKG went to release there mini album Houkai Amplifier. It was a huge success ranking number 1 on the High Line Record Sale. Oricon also went on to rank it number 35.
Within the same year AKG scored it huge. They recived a contract to use there song Haruka Kanata as the opening theme for Naratou a highly popular anime world wide. Now there music was reaching both Japanese fans along as English based fans as well.
In 2003 AKG released two singles and there first full album, Kimitsunagi Five M. Once again the sales for there album sky rocketed selling over 20,000 copies!
The next year held great things for the band. On March 11th the recived the prestigious award of Best New Artist Video at the Space Shower Music Video Awards. This honor came about because of there video for Kimi to iu hana.
In addition to all of this they released three new singles. One of them was graced to be the fourth and last ending theme to Full Metal Alchemist. While the other two singles were on Oricons top monthly ranking for two months and a row. A big accomplishment for them.
Still within the same year they went on to perform at 8 festivals. One of which, Nano-Mugen Festival, they hosted themselfs!
But most importantly AKG went on to release there second album Sol-Fa and their first DVD. Sol-Fa went on to sell over 500,000 copies.
As for 2005 great things are to be expected from the ever growing popular group.
So far they have gone to the Sonic Festival and proced with a tour of Japan. There tour was entitled Re: Re: |
