Kris Roe, a man with a talent for song writing, playing guitar, and much much more. Kris Roe one day went to a Vandals concert with a demo tape he had made. He met Joe Escalante there, the founder of the Vandals. Kris gave Escalante the demo, and Escalante was very surprised. He had loved the demo, and he asked Kris to create a band and sign with the Kung-fu Records Label. Kris Roe went to California trying to get a band together. The first addition was guitarist Jasin Thomason. They were soon able to find a bass player by the name Marko 72. Still in search of a drummer, Kris, Jasin, and Marko gave the demo to Kung-fu Records to have them find a drummer. The drummer that accepted the offer after hearing the demo was Derrick Plourdre. So the band got together and everything was like this, Kris Roe (Guitar/Vocals), Jasin Thomason (Guitar/back-up vocals), Marko 72 (Bass), and Derrick Plourdre (Drums). They all thought long and hard on their name and somehow came up with THE ATARIS!!! The Ataris Signed with Kung-fu Records, and they began working on their first album. They finished recording the album in less than a week. In mid-1997, The Ataris released their first full-length album entitled "ANYWHERE BUT HERE". The album featured 20 short pop-punk songs that were very popular, and somewhat humorous. Over the years, however, the album began to sell more and more copies, and today you can't find it anywhere, because it has gone 4X platinum. But after the release of Anywhere but Here, The entire band that Kris Roe put together, had fallen apart. Every member except for Kris, had left, so Kris was On his own again, but it did not take long for him to get another band together, because after hearing Anywhere But here, guitarist Patrick Riley, Drummer Chris Knapp, and bass player Mike Davenport, decided to join The Ataris. In 1998, The ataris released a small EP entitled "LOOK FORWARD TO FAILURE", which had sold more than 100,000 copies. In 1999, The Ataris released another full-length album entitled "BLUE SKIES, BROKEN HEARTS... NEXT 12 EXITS". This album had gone multi-platinum, and featured two singles, San Dimas High School Footbal Rules, and Your Boyfriend Sucks. Right after the release of Blue Skies, Broken Hearts... Next 12 Exits, Guitarist Patrick Riley had left the band. In late 1999, The Ataris luckily found a new guitarist that goes by the name, Marco Pena. In Early 2001, The Ataris released their heaviest, and most popular album entitled "END IS FOREVER", which featured singles that people were dying to hear, like Giving Up On Love, Summer Wind Was Always Our Song, and Teenage Riot. A few months after the release of End is Forever, Kris Roe had a reunioun with the former members Derrick Plourdre, Marko 72, and Jasin Thomason. They remastered Anywhere But Here so it would sound much better, and released a new enhanced version in mid-2002, and it included a new track called Anderson. As soon as that was over, The Ataris went to do their live concert for End is Forever. After the show, The Ataris parted with Guitarist Marco Pena, but in less than two weeks, they found a new guitarist, named John Collura. In early 2003, The Ataris released their most serious album yet, entitled SO LONG ASTORIA. So Long Astoria, went platinum really fast. So Long Astoria featured 3 singles, which were In This diary, The Saddest Song, and the re-make of Don Henley's song, The Boys of Summer. The Ataris are a very successful band that has gone through a lot of changes, but they will always be one of our favorite pop-punk bands!!!

a couple of days ago i went to see them in Manchester (UK) and they were terrible live. probably the worst gig i've been 2 in ages.
still think the misic is ok though. | blue-lamp | The Ataris do a very respectable job of covering Don Henley's (of the Eagles) Boys of Summer.
The Ataris obviously have some good taste in music. | LordCyrus | | geez people! you talk about the boys of summer as if it were the only song out there by the ataris! listen to the whole cd and thier older stuff and you will find some that are a whole lot better! | izziebitt | | Boys Of Summer would have to be my favourite song. These guys rock. They are sooo mad. | Pollard88 | | i dont think it was fare they had to do boys of summer to get noticed or wateva there a good band without having to do a cover song there wont shit is wicked as hell | evil666 | | i've got my songs picked out, my favorite songs are, beatiful mistake from so long astoria [bonus tracks] i like i won't spend another night alone from so long astoria [bonus tracks] not the blue skies version, and last, boys of summer from so long astoria. | Bgrotha | | Hey. I just bought the album "So Long, Astoria" today, and I'm so glad I did, this album rocks. | Pollard88 | simpleplanzgrupislut (or anyone who can answer this):
how is this version of boys of summer anywhere near better than the original?! the song was "popped" up and over played. | izziebitt | | OH MY GOD, you are extremely wrong, they did not pop it up, the ataris' version is much better than don henley's version, don henley's version is the pop version, cuz don henley is like George Michael. | Bgrotha | | i really liek this song.i knwo its been over played on the radio but im not sick of it:D | Liza87 | | bgrotha is right!!!!! | i_heart_emo_boys187 | Hey... Rules. I don't really like their new stuff(boys of summer included and most of so long of astoria). Defiantly not my favotie stuff. But the older songs are completely kick ass. I'm not a hater...I'm just a little disappointed with todays music in general. Anyways, great band up to this point. | insertname | Oh, and I forgot to metion...the ataris didn't do a bad job on boys of summer(it's not their best work) but I don't think it's better than the original. But, I'm way into old music and the original version is the one I have always listened to since I was little. Maybe I'm biased...or maybe you all just suck. | insertname | san dimas highschool football dreams is my favoritest. or maybe summer wind was always our song. or hit or miss. i dont know.... i love all the ones i used to listen to.. they have a comfortable familiarity to them. these songs are my old friends... the new songs are my vile emofagish enemies! =*( | xzar | | | |
