After attending and graduating from the same high school in Olympia, Jesse Fox and Sarah Utter decided to start playing together. After a friend\'s suggestion that they get Maggie Vail to play bass, the first official band practice was held in March of 1997. Their first show was not long after in the basement of the Lucky 7.
A few months later they toured down the west coast with Satisfact, then recorded their first LP, \"Tiger Beat\". It was released on the Olympia-based label Kill Rock Stars, where Maggie worked as a publicist.
After an eventful U.S. tour following their release of the \"Maggie The Cat\" 7-inch, Jesse quit the band and Heather Dunn (Dub Narcotic Sound System) took his place.
Bangs experienced a dry period wherein they tried out several drummmers before settling on Sarah\'s friend, Kyle Ermatinger. They recorded \"Sweet Revenge\" right away and planned a U.S. tour with Sleater-Kinney, The Gossip, and The Makers.
The U.K. hosted the band in 2001 as they toured with The Gossip and Sarah Dougher, after which Kyle decided that the touring thing wasn\'t for him. Maggie and Sarah started playing with Peter David Connelly, who took over on drums.
In 2004, the band broke up after Sarah moved away. The members are currently involved in other projects, such as the Bonnot Gang (Maggie) and Mona Reels (Peter). |
