Inspired by the best moments of punk rock history, Budapest three-piece Bankrupt deliver a unique blend of oldschool and newschool melodic punk rock, tinged with some garage rock and power pop. Regardless of what hype is going on right now on what was earlier called the punk rock scene, Bankrupt stick to the music they like, and continue writing songs that sound the way punk rock was meant to be. Nasty. Fast. Melodic. Shorter than Danny DeVito. Hence the title of their third album, due Aug 2006 on local label PiaR Records).
Shorter than Danny DeVito is the definitive Bankrupt album. With 11 songs under 22 minutes, Bankrupt's wide range of influences is displayed by the primal garage beats of "Come Around", the catchy power pop of "18 Now" (sung by guitarerro William), the So-Cal style punk rock of "Record Store Renegade", and the Ramones-tribute song "Farewell to the Cretins". There are no fillers on this album, every song has its own identity, and the drive is maintained from the first second to the last one.
During the 10 years of their existence, Bankrupt have played about 250 concerts, including several big festivals, in Hungary and nearby countries like Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia, and Serbia while their music also got a friendly reception in other parts of Europe, and in the US. The band's second album, Bad Hair Day was welcomed by a 10/10 rating by the prominent German punk/hc portal Southspace.de.
Bankrupt is proud to have supported internationally recognised acts like the Toy Dolls (UK), Randy (SWE), D.O.A. (CAN), The Real McKenzies (CAN) and many others. They played festivals in Germany (Townquake Ansbach, WGSOAF Rübenau, Uni-Sommerfest Munich), Austria (Wheelbite, Halloween Festival, Eastpark, Mühl-O-Mat, Moshpit, Reed Rock etc.), the Czech Republic (Mighty Sounds, Punk Aid, Jiòak), Croatia (Dirty Old Festival), Slovenia (No Border Jam), and Hungary (Sziget, Wanted, EFOTT, V4, etc.).
