The nucleus of Basement was formed in 2003 by classmates at St. Maria Goretti High School. After two years and several lineup additions and subtractions, the band settled on five members, consisting of classmates Conner Gilbert, Billy Derrick, Dane Schiro, and Andy Jameson, as well as their most recent member Ryjan Van Evera. Basement's live performances have included school dances/concerts/talent shows, acoustic sets at local coffee houses, and a post-game show at the Hagerstown Suns' Municipal Stadium. Having relied on cover songs early in their career, the band is undergoing the transition to an original music group. Their sound can be compared to current bands such as the Goo Goo Dolls, Weezer, Oasis, and Vertical Horizon, as well as very strong influences from 60's bands like The Beatles. The group released its debut CD, Next Year's Memory in late April of 2005. The CD consists of 11 songs, the contributors of which are Conner Gilbert, Billy Derrick, and Dane Schiro.
