Basic Rubbish were formed in the post-punk era of 1979. The Band consists of five individuals each bringing their own style and panache to the sound and style of the band. The overall combination of styles creates a signature sound of happy, boppy and sing a long tunes loved and adored by our many followers.
The band in its original format released their first album - Live At The Lane - in 1979 on their own personal label - The Black Hole Round Records.
The band then toured extensively in the early eighties and created a second album, which was long lost and was never released due to drummer Phil going awol following bust-ups during the studio sessions.
The band then toured once again and concluded with what turned out to be their last ever gig at a sold out Tudors Nightclub in Harrow Weald Middlesex. The gig went down in Indie-Pop folklore as one of the most enegetic gigs of all time, big things were expected from this small band in Wembley.
The band then locked themselves away to create their second/third album when guitarist Steve's increasing involvment with his supermodel girlfreind Vicky caused him to leave the band, causing much unrest for the remaining four members. A musical change of direction was needed for Basic Rubbish to sustain their status as one of the countries most up and coming bands, which was finally taken in the summer of 1983 when Mark, Andy, and Phil left the band to form Temple Of Silence. The only member left of Basic Rubbish is John Wylie who is now belived to be performing acoustic versions of Basic Rubbish hits under the name of Rick Ash in Southern Eastern Spain.
The last of the band's tapes were thought to have been stolen and lost forever in the late eighties. However, some of these tapes have been recovered - with songs including the live favourite ' Henry The Bouncing Caravan' and catchy ' I Won't Make The Same Mistake'. They have been digitally remastered and a live album - Rubbish On The Road - has been released with some of this found material. Only one copy has been made so far and the demand is high for more to be made by new label Trippin Puppet Productions. Strong rumours are rif in the music industry that the band plan to re-release some of the studio versions of the tracks found recently as a Greatest Hits compilation in the near future.
