There are so many flashback bands today that sound exactly like something we were listening to 20-30 years ago. This is one band that is showing what the future of music holds. Blending the sounds of theater, classical, rock and some good old-fashioned pop, The Battery Kids have created a sound of their own.
The band is fronted by singer/guitarist Shannon, who provides an operatic vocal style accompanied by thick distorted power chords and some haunting lead guitar. Having a keyboardist in the band, Bowl, the music is rich with harmony and classically styled arpeggios. He uses a palette of different sounds painting each song a new picture and emotion. Tom, on bass, not only provides the low frequencies of the mix but his melodic bass lines vary from Metal to Classical to Jazz to Blues and even Reggae. Then there’s Jonno, who holds the band together with solid rock drums and powerful fills. Together they make up a unique theatrical rock band that cannot be compared to many bands today, or ever.
The group met while studying music and saw the opportunity to form a band that can exercise their musical knowledge. The Battery Kids developed their sound in Adelaide; a city mostly made of hardcore/metal bands, and had worked hard to find a market for their music. They have since recorded a three-track demo and have made a music video. The band plays shows around Adelaide at venues such as Off the Couch, Jive, The Jade Monkey, The Governor Hindmarsh, Flinders Uni-bar, The Lizard Lounge, The Underground, The Directors Studio, Radio Adelaide, The Salisbury Taverner and many more.
Recently, the band has been receiving radio airplay. They reached #2 on the Australian Alternative MP3 Chart, #7 on the Three D Radio Top 20 + 1 Chart, and have had live radio interviews on Three D, Radio Adelaide and Triple B FM. The band also made it into the state finals of the NCBC competition and has been featured in local street magazines. The Battery Kids are currently writing and recording home demos in preparation for their debut EP. Check out latest news at the website: www.thebatterykids.com
