Bev Barnett & Greg Newlon have a vocal blend that happens when two people spend all their time together - call it bedroom harmony or kitchen table harmony - it gives you chills either way. Their take on contemporary acoustic folk reveals a country flair influenced by Newlon's background in the Aspen music scene of the 1970s, combined with the unmistakable groove of R&B.
Barnett's voice has been called angelic, "like buddaaaah," with a purity reminiscent of Alison Krauss and Karen Carpenter. Newlon's guitar encircles the song as he finds his way between the notes with delicacy and strength. Jim Morrison bummed a cigarette off of him in 1967. Last year he showed a room full of fourth graders that you can play ANY song in bluegrass style. The fourth graders were more appreciative.
The duo has found its stride with music that rides an edge between the searching that we all do and the realities of the world we live in. They reach through the music to the audience with songs that will make you think, make you smile and leave you nodding in agreement. |
