Bev Lee Harling is definately the sum of her many lovely parts. She has been described by her seaside loving family as a ‘rudderless boat’, and for good reason.
Since leaving classical and jazz music studies, Bev has toured with a jazz septet on viola and voice, played violin for an Argentinian Tango group, fiddled for a sweaty, fast playing Celtic band, led a roots band with a borrowed electric six string and a dodgy microphone, joined forces with Julian Hinton (her favourite composer/piano player/lover, who played for City Showcase last year) for a show of original compositions at the Edinburgh Festival, learnt the guitar, busked to earn money on the cobbled streets of George Street in her home town of Hastings, and most importantly since moving to London, writes her own songs, influenced by all of the things above.
Bev will be releasing a four track E.P “Impossible Human” in May 2006 on her own label. She performs regularly in and around London, including Cargo, Jazz Café and Cobden Club, and can be found first Sunday of every month at “Bevs Kitchen”, a night she runs at Viva Viva- World Music Café in Hornsey, London, featuring songwriters, visual artists, poets and anyone else that catches her eyes and ears.
