The Norwegian ambient techno artist Geir Jenssen (Formerly of Bel Canto and Bleep) now works under the nom de plume Biosphere.
Living 400 miles inside the arctic circle in Tromso, Norway Jenssen evokes the sense of desolation, peace and timelessness inherent in such an isolated place in his music.
His breakthrough as a mainstream Ambient artist came about when Levi jeans used the track Novelty Waves (From the Patashnik album) on one their 'Drugstore' series of adverts.
His use of sparse rhythms, haunting synths and abstract vocal and 'found' samples create tracks that move the listener from a mundane existence into a world of peaceful isolation, sometimes disturbing, often meditative.
As well as mainstream album releases he has also produced film soundtracks (Insomnia), auditory installations (most notable being Birmingham Frequencies with The Higher Intelligence Agency), and remixes of other artists.
