The Birthday Massacre were founded in 1999 in London, Canada. It's current members include Chibi (Lead Vocals), Rainbow (Rythm Guitar) Michael Falcore (Lead Guitar), Aslan (Bass), ADM (Keys), and their newest member Rhim (Drums).
Their sound is said to be a fusion of retro electronica and dynamic contemporary songwriting. Elements of children's fiction and adult fantasy are combined with twisting distortion and euphoric melody to create a unique and original sound dubbed "post-retro." This sound is also affiliated with "synth-rock" a rising genre influenced by elements 80's synth-pop, industrial, and gothic rock.
The Birthday Massacre has released two full lenght CDs; Nothing and Nowhere (2002) and Violet (2004). They also released two demos earlier, under the name Imagica. This name was later changed to The Birthday Massacre, the title of one of their demo songs, to avoid legal conflicts.
The recent success of The Birthday Massacre, including a small but productive US tour has allowed the band to re-release Nothing and Nowhere, which has been unavailable for quite a while due to limited quantities.
Thanks to their imaginative concept, dramatic compositions, and creative live performances, The Birthday Massacre have already earned international acclaim as one of the most original and promising new bands of this millennium.
