BEP SUCKS!!!!!!!! Will.i.am and Apl.de.ap of Black Eyed Peas are tied in my book for the wackest emcee award. Singed first by Eazy-E to E’s Ruthless Records, the Peas’ first album was shelved because they couldn’t figure out how to market a peace-loving, non-violent rap group, but that’s not what makes them wack. An emcee’s talents lie in their ability to use words to evoke images, emotions, contemplation, humor and a number of other things. Let’s take a look at one of Will.i.am’s hotter lines from the song “Disco Club” off of Monkey Business:
“Baby don't pout
I don't want a baby mamma
Don't wanna spout”
What the h*ll does that mean? Taking a closer look at Apl.de.ap from the same track, we can see that he is equally wack:
“Not like an eviction
But me and you baby it'll all cause a friction
As my eyes undress ya
Just wanna let you know there's no pressure”
They tried to claim that they “didn’t sell out.” This is even worse because they’re dishing out their half-assed, overproduced music as if it were Truth. Compare the lyrics above to lyrics from the title track to their sophomore album Bridging the Gap:
"I know I'm not the only one that's filling the void
Creatively hip-hop is being destroyed
A lot of rappers really need to be unemployed
because the topics that them talk about has got me annoyed"
It goes on…
"We the only crew that came original
while a lot of other brothers just mimic the pile
The pile that's only designed for pop charts
that contradicts thought, that's the reason we brought
it back cause honestly it lacks
talent and creativity, in fact
these are symptoms to somethin that's wack
And your system senseless to witness that"
What the f**k happened?! BEP needs to lose Fergie, and get back to their b-boying roots. That “Humps” song is overplayed, generic, and it sounds like she’s bragging about cancer. BEP is a good example of the type of music that Little Brother was talking about when they poignantly titled their album, The Minstrel Show. Apl.de.ap and Will.i.can’t.rap: wack.
