Taking in the influences of the whole listening history, Black Stump was formed. Coming from Zimbabwe and growing up with limited musical resources ANY good music was soaked up.
Music was passed round like underground currency. Any rock, metal or alternative music was hard to come by. So when Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and Dream Theater arrived eyes lit up!
Alex Booyse, with the help of part-time writing buddy Dave Whitham, has been playing locally round Hertfordshire for the last year, and has recorded the Black Stump Sessions. Following in the vapor trails of the likes of Alice in Chains and Days Of The New, Black Stump is not your usual strummed up acoustic drivel so many artists pedal. A five song EP filled with aggresive acoustic rock and powerful vocals now colours the sounds around Hertfordshire.
We all sound like our influences/heros/mentors, and so with all that in mind BLACK STUMP comes across powerfully and incharge. Chugging and shucking throughout. This is what you are supposed to hear when you look for Acoustic Rock, and not some three-legged chicken plucking away on some longlost redneck plank. Aggressive sounding with well beaten acoustic guitars.
