BlackOut 69 began in 1996 as a Metallica cover band. The original band broke up in 1998 after the members seperated and moved to different cities. Slackin Brackin began making techno music under the name Joe Smo shortly afterwards. One day Slackin Brackin mixed a techno track with metal guitars and growling vocals. This song was not fit for the rest of the techno he had been doing. The song, Static99, became the first recording under the name BlackOut 69. Slackin Brackin began recording Destroying America's Youth afterwards. The album was never released, though several tracks ended up on the release of Infected, the first album by BlackOUt 69 to be released. Stefin Wulfe joined BlackOut 69 at the beginning of what became to be the Infected recording sessions. He brought his keyboard skills to the the metal guitars and the growls of Slackin. After releasing Infected, BlackOut 69 stayed in the studio recording a second album, Cured. However, a major computer virus destroyed the masters and nothing was left but the demo tracks. These tracks were never released as an album but are available as MP3 purchases. After a couple years of, BlackOut 69 has since entered the studio yet again, this time professionally and serious, with new member, Johnny T. The upcoming album is expected to be what many believe to be their true first CD.
