You are now visiting the official Website of Mike Ogletree, drummer (Simple Minds, Fiction Factory, Café’ Jacques) you found it. I have adopted the band name blaxcot, which I like because it says who I am. Black Scot, or Afro-Scot. My father was afro-American my mother was Scottish. I was born and raised in Scotland, I lived in Italy for eight, Los Angeles for 13 and now in New York.
Blaxcot is a musical project where I am using a blend of the two art forms of 1) electronica and 2) the more traditional techniques of composition and arrangement to create a fresh new sound for older classic and not so classic songs. Arranging using the technique of remix. I don’t know quite what genre it would fall under, I originally thought electronic, or techno maybe R&B but in reality there’s a bit of everything. For example I have a remix of an early Joni Mitchell piece called For The Roses as well as the classic Sam Cooke song Change is gonna come. Artistic collaboration is a key component to my work and so far I have collaborated with Trent Reznor, Banco de Gaia, Flatt & Alvis, Sara McLachlan, k-Minor and Rhiannon Giddens. I invite your participation if you are seriously interested in a collaboration of this type.
My materia prima runs the gamut of the emotion and passion of fifties Blues to the spirit and life of current World Music and anything in between that moves me.
Basically I am utilizing state of the art computer technology to revivify music I love and want to share with others. As well as staying on the cutting edge of what is current and “hip” musically part of my mission as an artist is to stimulate and renew interest in our musical heritage and help keep alive and true the roots of our musical culture, which has done so much to change the face of this planet in the last 60 years. My remix/arrangements will be available for download as I complete them. I look forward to hearing from you.
