He could play the guitar like a motherfucking riot

As many of you know, though it's hard to believe, next Thursday May 25th will be the 10-year anniversary of Bradley James Nowell's tragic death. It's a big milestone for Sublime (his former band) as well as family, friends, and fans.

Again, it seems impossible that a decade has passed since the day he died in his San Francisco hotel room of heroin overdose. As he is missed terribly by so many, including myself, I just wanted to use this blog post to commemorate him, the amazing man he was. Though it's been years since his passing, he is still remembered for by his incredible music made with his band Sublime. He's also remembered for his love of animals, particularly his Dalmation Lou-Dog, who he rescued from an abusive owner. He left behind his family, including his new wife Troy, and their young son Jakob.
It's a strange thing, how the substance that killed him (being heroin) was also what influenced him and his bandmates during the time they wrote some of their greatest music, that time known as their 2-year "heroin expirement". Despite his efforts in rehab to clean up, sadly Brad was overcome by his addiction, which was fatal for him. God only knows what would have happened if it hadn't been for heroin. He's remembered today for so many things, obviously most notoriously an amazing musician, leaving behind lots of great music. I only wish I had been old enough (I was only eight or nine) to have seen even one of his concerts before he passed. Hope (at least if you're a fan, but even if you're not) that you'll listen to Sublime on the 25th in memory of Brad. And hopefully you guys have learned from him and won't be shooting up in his memory. At least not too much anyways. Seriously it's bad. Just get a 40 and some reefer or something.

Rest in peace Bradley James Nowell

It just shows that drugs are a dead-end. Period. People talk about all the great music that was made while an artist was drugged up. What a crock. These artists could have made the same music without drugs because it(the music) was already in their soul.

it depends.

Again I will say! no matter how great you are or was! if you use drugs it is most certainly a dead end! As fact is proving! so I say music should be the drug if you are a musician! Keep using because you think it brings out you talent? Bullshit! it simply takes your talent away in time. We musicians must learn to tap into our talent without drug use!!!

there's a lot of people seem to equate intoxication with inspiration. that gets on my tits. but then, a cheeky smoke of some sweet herbs never did any harm to get the ball rollin, but once its rollin, u gotta be sharp and on the case or it'll slip thru your fingers.i dont think that drugs will make a great muso out of an average muso, only work and experience will do that. but i dont think u can discount works made under the influence as u would disqualify an athlete for enhancing their perfomance..am tempted to bring viagara into it here and use the word performance again, inna knob gag stylee, but i'll refrain. heh. i mean, even if an athlete is really ripped tp the tits on summat illegal, s/he's still really movin.... right? hahahahaha. a good artist can create from a muddy puddle enough beauty to make an ocean. with or without drugs. just say no! kids. uhm. what was the question again? that dude who died, he did rock. shudna done the bad drugs tho, nuh uh. not all drugs are the same. beer kills too tho, worth remembering that. before gettin righteous and all 'slippery slpoe of addiction' on my ass. or arse, as they say here. because its cooler.
