Controversy over tribute bands
What do you think of tribute bands? Are they great tribute's to the musicians we've come to love, or do they disrespect them by doing covers of their original music after
their death? I think this is an interesting discussion topic; there's a fair amount of controversy over this already- what's your opinion?

I'm not really sure what to think of these 'tribute' bands, as they call themselves. For example, I really respect Badfish (a tribute to Sublime), for honoring the memory of Brad Nowell and the band's amazing music. On the other hand, I know that there will never again be anyone like Brad, any band like Sublime, and it almost seems that to be covering their original music would be somewhat blasphemous (or maybe that's just me
being highly moralistic...right). I mean, if you were Brad would you want someone to be performing the music that you wrote, after your death? However, Brad might think of it to
be cool that someone is honoring him and his music and that he is being remembered. We'll never know.

Some band's that haven't even broken up have tribute's too, one being Gwen in Doubt, No Doubt's tribute. In my opinion, No Doubt is one of the greatest bands (or at least ska
bands) ever, and no one on earth has a voice like Gwen Stefani (that's not just my opinion, it's a well known fact. Same goes for Mr. Nowell). Personally, I don't think anyone could
do a good cover of them. Then again, I still manage respect towards them for honoring a great band like No Doubt. The thing is- are they really honoring them, or just making money off of someone elses music, while using the word 'tribute' as an excuse? So am I
just a paranoid, suspisous, bitch or is there any truth to this theory?

I'm really not so sure what to think about tribute bands, so I'm asking your opinion. There's nothing wrong with honoring a band's music, in fact I'm all for it, It's just that
it seems somewhat a disrespect towards the band/diceased musician to be playing their original music after they're dead. I think maybe when the musician dies, their music should not be played anymore ( I mean live, not on a CD) just because it was their own
music. But as I said, I'd like hear more opinions on the matter. So what do you think?

He could play the guitar like a motherfucking riot

As many of you know, though it's hard to believe, next Thursday May 25th will be the 10-year anniversary of Bradley James Nowell's tragic death. It's a big milestone for Sublime (his former band) as well as family, friends, and fans.

Again, it seems impossible that a decade has passed since the day he died in his San Francisco hotel room of heroin overdose. As he is missed terribly by so many, including myself, I just wanted to use this blog post to commemorate him, the amazing man he was. Though it's been years since his passing, he is still remembered for by his incredible music made with his band Sublime. He's also remembered for his love of animals, particularly his Dalmation Lou-Dog, who he rescued from an abusive owner. He left behind his family, including his new wife Troy, and their young son Jakob.
It's a strange thing, how the substance that killed him (being heroin) was also what influenced him and his bandmates during the time they wrote some of their greatest music, that time known as their 2-year "heroin expirement". Despite his efforts in rehab to clean up, sadly Brad was overcome by his addiction, which was fatal for him. God only knows what would have happened if it hadn't been for heroin. He's remembered today for so many things, obviously most notoriously an amazing musician, leaving behind lots of great music. I only wish I had been old enough (I was only eight or nine) to have seen even one of his concerts before he passed. Hope (at least if you're a fan, but even if you're not) that you'll listen to Sublime on the 25th in memory of Brad. And hopefully you guys have learned from him and won't be shooting up in his memory. At least not too much anyways. Seriously it's bad. Just get a 40 and some reefer or something.

Rest in peace Bradley James Nowell

Rather be dead than cool
This April 5th, It will have been 12 years since that sad day in 1994 when Kurt Cobain died. I can't believe that it has been that long, and I still listen to Nirvana just as much now as I did then (and I was only a little kid). There's a lot of controversy over his death, even today, and many questions remain unanswered- Was it suicide? Murder? Did Courtney kill him? (has my bet) And there are some people that even believe he's still alive. So what do you think? I personally believe that Courtney killed him- I mean look at her, she's crazy. But I think that's also partly because i don't want to believe he killed himself. I want to know what you think about his death, and your reasons. Oh yeah, and remember to listen to Nirvana and wear your Nirvana tee's this April 5th in memory of him.

R.I.P. Kurt Donald Cobain 1967-1994
