First Instalment
My relationship with Hip Hop has not abated in 20 yrs plus and there seems to be no sign of it doing so. So with the first track uploaded from the forthcoming mixtape, ‘There will Be A Reckoning’ the emphasis will be on things Hip Hop but the mixtape will not be exclusively about that. There will be street life, family life, girls and history. The full mixtape should be fully uploaded by the end of October so stay tuned and checkout the first instalment Ride 4 HipHop, which is first of a trilogy of tracks with Hip Hop as their theme.

For those wondering what the woman is singing here is a translation:

Poveri fiori : Poor flowers,

gemme de' prati : the jewels of the meadow

pur ieri nati, : born only yesterday

oggi morenti : today you are dying

The last line :- oggi morenti : today you are dying is omitted from the track but if we see Hip Hop as the Poor Flowers and take into consideration the last line then you will see that i am trying to say that Hip Hop is dying a death (its still fighting but at present we are on the losing side) This is due to comercial interests taking precedence over the cultural and positive interests of the art form know as Hip Hop which contains at least four other art forms under that title.

Gay Rap: A concerted attack or a pain in the arse!
Yes gay rap is out there and gaining substantial press on different platforms including a radio documentary which was recently aired on BBC Radio 1.

Homosexual rap is for the most part just as crude and unnerving at times as underground rap when rapping about sexual exploits. The obvious difference is that they are talking about man on man sex and not leaving nothing to the imagination! To many from the main stream rap community this is unnatural and unwanted. They have also been prone to point out why the hell would a gay man (which most gay rappers are at present) want to be part of an industry that ridicules them and claims that they should be shot! Also rap is looked upon as a red meat eating type culture where the men rule the roost and anything effeminate is frowned upon as a deviation of the true form.

However just as infamous female rapper Little Kim came out fighting for the women to just be as ‘nasty’ as the Men, so from the wilderness came Gay rappers saying f#?k You N#gg? Literally LOL. Jokes aside I feel if they wanna rap fair play, but I’m not happy with their crude and tasteless rap about sex. Yes and for the record I’m not happy with any rapper being crude in regards to their sexual exploits unless they do it with a little style like myself lmao!

And I’m not gonna even go into the rumour of some hardcore rappers/producers being gay.

Let me know your views on this touchy subject! Thanx.

Conscious Music (prehistoric ramblings or tool for social change?)
Conscious Music (prehistoric ramblings or tool for social change?)

Conscious music seems to have mostly died the death in the popular music front. Gone are the days when P.E (Public Enemy) spouted its uncompromising form of political rap to the masses, now in the rap world sex rules, conscious music seems to be now unpalatable to the music executives, I think it has always been that way, but the unscrupulous people that most record executives are, they probably thought well we don’t like this type of music but dam if they be making money without us!

However recently there has been certain conscious tracks that have made their way to the top ten, most recently Blackeye Peas’ ‘Where Is The Love’, Jadakiss’s ‘Why’. Nas has always tried to push out at least one or two positive tunes on his cds, and there is Common, Dilated Peoples, Kanye West to name but a few. But do you think their success is due to the heavy wave of sex, sex, sex, party, party, party, Blink, blink, blink and of course ‘Kill, kill, kill your bit#h ass and go home and have my 40 oz and a big mac and fries whilst watching American/UK Pop Idol! The inbalance generating a search by music listeners to hear something different as opposed to Sex & Kill Music!

What are your views on Positive music Vs Negative music, or don’t you give a rat’s posterior as long as you like the music!

What Would You Do?
You are quite a conscientious music artist but your stance has left you out of work and your funds are low. You come from a rundown part of the city and the only way people from your area ever get out is via sports/sleazy pop music/pornos/drug dealing or a combination of all of the above.

You are a talented artist but your music is too serious for big sales. The bills need paying and your in a low paid dead end job.

You are offered a million dollars (£750,000) to water down your music and lighten up abit. A few scantily dressed girls and guys here and there and plenty of pretentious items to make it more appealing to the TV generation masses. It is against your beliefs but you are at rock bottom...

What Would You Do?

Rap Music The Polygamist!
Rap Music The Polygamist Of All Music Forms!

I feel this is an easy question to answer, but I'm aware that not everyone views things from the same angle. Please feel free to express your view! Here's mine:

To me Rap music has the mentality of a virile young buck full of the natural essence of Viagra, fornicating with an insatiable appetite. The first piece of fine ass music it sees it’s all over it like white on rice bending it into karma Sutra-cal positions and trying to get the best out of it according to its ever changing set of beliefs. It likes the new but most of all it looooovvvvveeeeeees the old, mature fine ass music is its favourite, it’s penchant.

It don’t care what it looks or sounds like, it will push up against it with a passionate embrace and make love to every possible part of its musical body, and while that particular body is resting after Rap has had it wicked way with it, Rap will be off again with a libido as certain as George Bush’s flagrant disregard for the Kyoto agreement. Rap can only be truly described as having a Star Trek Borg mentality, everything in its path will be assimilated…

… RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!

What qualifies a song as Soulful!
Soul music is normally associated with Black People and Black music, but I think many different races produce music with Soul. What do you think?

And what 5 artists/bands would you choose (non Black ones that is).

My five would be:

1. Nirvana
2. Coldplay
3. R.E.M
4. Abeline (isound band checkout 'I
Believe 'Piano version')
5. David Grey

I could name many more but these are the ones that came to mind now!
