KNSU Slips BaCkStaGe at Voodoo Fest (New Orleans) in '05!
... And this is a long overdue blog about that day...

Two Saturdays ago Voodoo Fest, this year lasted only one day in New Orleans and two additional days in Memphis due to the hurricanes. In addition, it was turned into a huge concert benifit for "Restore. Rebuild. Rebirth."

KNSU was there. We're just that hip-- so hip in fact, that we were able to score Press Passes and chill in the free bar with all the kick ass bands. We've got audio proof of this account, and it will be heavily edited (due to FCC regulations) and aired on KNSU soon and over the next few weeks.

DJs TRoLL and Don Puebla recorded interviews and shoutouts from Queens of the Stone Age, World Leader Pretend, The Brotherhood of the Groove, The New York Dolls, writers for MTV, Supagroup, and others! Listen to your BEST alternative station, 91.5 "the edge" KNSU for more on all that!

Getting drunk in the free bar with The New York Dolls and Queens of the Stone Age was the BEST! At some point, Madlaugher was on his 9th drink and Trent Reznor sat down next to him on the couch. They had a CONVERSATION! Not much, due to intoxication was remembered. However, I have to wonder if it was altogether merely a booze induced hallucination of sorts...

NIN opened with "Head Like a Hole," then went into "Closer," but after that it's all a blur because I was running around stalking the bands for 11 hours with bronchitis and asthma (and after walking to Nicholls that morning to catch up with my carpool), and at some point I ended up in the New Orleans hospital, against my will, where I refused to be treated. Was it worth it? You bet your sweet ass!

Keep listening to 91.5 "the edge" for more interviews! An interview with vocalist/musician Dax Riggs will be aired Thurs. of this week at about 12:45. Soon to come, Ruyter Suy, guitarist of Nashville Pussy (as soon as I get the file from Cade in my e-mail, and then a week or two later.)

motto: "KNSU: ...Um, I'll get that tomorrow." The BEST alternative station on the entire Nicholls campus!

This is DJ TRoLL signing out!

PEAcE!

My Psychoanalysis Profile

My Psychoanalysis Profile!
Current mood: shocked

This was pretty right on...

Free personality analysis from ColorQuiz.com.
Generated on Wed May 11 22:32:19 2005.

Your Existing Situation:

Works well in cooperation with others. Needs a personal life of mutual understanding and freedom from discord.

Your Stress Sources:

Has an unsatisfied need to ally herself with others whose standards are as high as her own, and to stand out from the herd. This desire for preeminence isolates her and inhibits her readiness to give herself freely. While she wants to surrender and let herself go, she regards this as a weakness which must be resisted. This self-restraint, she feels, will lift her above the rank and file and ensure recognition as a unique and distinctive personality.

Your Restrained Characteristics:

An unadmitted lack of confidence makes her careful to avoid open conflict and she feels she must make the best of things as they are.
Feels that things stand in her way, that circumstances are forcing her to compromise and forgo some pleasures for the time being.

Your Desired Objective:

Wants interesting and exciting things to happen. Able to make herself well-liked by her obvious interest and by the very openness of her charm. Over-imaginative and given to fantasy or day-dreaming.

Your Actual Problem:

Greatly impressed by the unique, by originality, and by individuals of outstanding characteristics. Tries to emulate the characteristics she admires and to display originality in her own personality.

Down With the Sick Protest!
April 21, 2005
mood: touched

Down With the Sick Protest!

A radical Christian group protested our Gay Straight Alliance at NSU recently. They came bearing signs that said, "God Hates Fags", "Thank God for 9/11", "Thank God for the Tsunami", "Dike Nuns", "Fag Priests", "The Pope is in Hell", etc.

These were members of Fred Phelp's church, Westboro Baptist, in Topeka, Kansas. Only eight of them showed up! Eight!

I came to class that day picketing a sign that said "Down with Signs". It was mostly as a joke, but if you think about it too long,it is a symbol for the hypocricy of anyone who would point to someone else and tell that person he or she is going to hell.

Soon after, My friends Keith, Dave, and Dudley helped me make at least 20 signs saying things like:

"Pave the Rainforest"
"Eat Mor Panduh"
"Shave the Whales"
"Fur is Murder"
"Cthulhu hates Protesters"
"Jesus saves up to 25% on car insurance"
"Switch to GODCO"
"Vote for Pedro"
"Down with pennies"
"Marks-a-lot Smell Goooood...."
"I Skipped out of class for THIS?!?"
"I shaved my legs for This?!?"
"Houmaphobe"
"I Got my BS (degree) at NSU!"

The Nicholls Worth covered the story on the front page of this weeks paper including pictures and printed a good editorial on page 25.

Now, the GSA is a hot topic around campus. And I'd like to think the protest brought us all closer together. At least 2 other groups were picketing signs, and members of a fraternity dressed in drag. Nicholls students chanted and sang "YMCA" in front of the Student Union, all because of this hateful message!

Thank you Westboro Baptist!

And thank you Fred Phelps!
