A husband and wife team, The Blues Hounds were both born and raised in the Memphis area steeping them in the rich tradition of Stax/Volt artists such as The Staple Singers, Albert King, Johnny Taylor, Sam and Dave, and Eddie Floyd along with blues legends like Junior Parker, Furry Lewis, B.B. King and countless others.
Christy Lake-Mathis, vocals, sings with a stunning, low voice heavily influenced by the musical traditions of the south, including the Delta blues. She cites as her influences Gladys Knight, Bonnie Raitt, and Aretha Franklin.
Don Mathis, vocals and all instruments, is an accomplished session musician and producer in his own right. His songwriting style ranges from folk to pop, but it is the blues that he calls "home". His major influences are Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, and Steve Cropper.
Together, they are The Blues Hounds. Fetching you the heartache, the hard times, and the good times that all converge to make up the blues. |
