He comes out of the West (of Melbourne that is) standing nearly 7 feet to the top of his designer (broken) wrangler hat. He sings like an old Cowboy & he certainly looks like an old cowboy, but, he’s a City boy with a Cowboy heart.
He’s not much on a horse & no good around tractors & won’t throw his precious Maton in the back of a Ute, but, he loves singin’ country tunes in the old-fashioned way. The first C & W song he sang was ‘From a Jack to a King’ at a local church fete & came 3rd – he was about 4 years old !
He names among his favourites & influences, the greats; Jim Reeves (He’ll have to go), Johnny Cash (Folsom & It ain’t me Babe), Kris Kristofferson (Help me Make it through the night), James Taylor (Bartender Blues) & his favourite Kenny Rodgers (The Gambler)
Combine that with his own titles – Too Many Beers, The Letter I’ll Never Send, Rare as Rain, Livin’ Beyond my Means, Life’s Too Ugly to be Sober (to name a few) & the set’s gonna be an interesting trip from the City to the Bush!
Bobby is well known down south & elsewhere for his appearances on Hey, hey it’s Saturday, The Midday Show, I.M.T., the odd movie & mini series & as the”voice of David Jones” for many years. He’s fronted every kind of band over the last 20 odd years recorded 3 albums including “Together, Alone” with Rhonda Burchmore.
A recent trip to Tamworth & a couple of great gigs at the festival, mark ‘The Love Rustler’s’ arrival on the Oz Country & Western scene
