Bolton; a spanktastically massive town. Roughy 10 miles North West of Manchester.
Bolton; technically in Greater Manchester, lies in a dip surrounded by some lovely scenery: Rivington, Edgerton and a large recreational park inhabited mainly by the underbelly of society that we have come to call townies, chavs, scallies or just general shit heads.
Bolton; home also to a band (well a few bands, a lot really). Hailing from the muddy backwaters of Bolton, however, are the unfortunately named Bookstore who play a collected concoction of dirty music with hints of 80's punk and influences ranging from Joy Division, The Arcade Fire, The Raveonettes, John Frusciante, Pixies, Queen Adreena, Devo, Grey Matter, Interpol, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Placebo, The Catheters, Dead Kennedy’s, Falco, Fugazi, Iggy and the Stooges, POISON (of course) and Smashing Pumpkins. It’s got that modern pop grunge element to it, but you may disagree with the whole of the above, finding it total bollocks, but have a listen and tell us what you think. We’ve had the privilege of playing with some cool bands like The Others, Loser Superhero, Extinguish Her, The Dude, Computerman ((soon!)) and Ladyfuzz. We’ve also got an independent release on the web based record label Valentine Records
Bookstore have been cruelly put on this earth to combine some of their favourite music into forming a sound they can be proud of. Not trying to be clever, credible or claiming to have any special musical ability and aiming to play loud and fast and have as much fun as possible without falling into the arrogant egotistical shite so many bands occupy these days and days before that. Also, we don't pretend that the world isn't really happening (like those 17 belt wearing, suicide note writing, ''i've ran out of ciggarettes and black hair dye and my girlfriends left me for another girl'' types), we'll say what we think about other bands, people and this shitty world. As well as trying to avoid a days work when at all possible.
After several projects buggering up like so much of life, the band formed in the autumn of 2004. The young, naïve and lazy foursome got into a studio in an equally rough place called Breightmet, swiftly composing their first tune entitled "Blow it Up". After months of rehearsals, planning and general piss-ups the band had a sound collection of nine tunes including a cover of 'Paint it Black' by the Stones (which we never play anymore, but will if you ask nicely) A live performance was required and the first venue was The Gypsy's Tent - in Bolton - at good old Fattypants O'Neill and James 'send the buggers back' Longhurst's 18th birthday party.
All our friends were there and took pity and made us feel like, well… good really. Anyhow, we practiced more and gigged more, got older more immature and generally tightened up our live performance. Oh... forgot to mention we moved to a different studio because they never turned up at the old one. So now we’re at DOA in Halliwell, with Don and Andy who we love so very mucho - and if you call them a few times in the morning one will get out of bed to unlock the studio for you. We then went to a recording studio that had been used before by some idiot, and came way with an utter shite piece of recording because the engineer was a tit. Won’t mention the studio name because that would result in lots of problems, (sued for slander etc… but it was crap)
The Band consists of a foursome lineup: Chris Yates (guitar), Sam Clamp (bass), Ric Baglow (drums) and Lizzie Hall (vocals) - all writing and composing their own music together. After two over expensive shoddy recording sessions and the recording of the roadhouse gig, the band have, on their very own, produced their first EP entitled 'The A's out EP' Mp3 clips of which can be downloaded from the media page. Formed around the infamous Lizzie (''unique shit hot vocals''), Ric (''intricate and fucking loud drumming technique'' - described as the only good thing about that shite band he was in when he thought he was a bit of a metal head) and Cris and Sam's long term if muted, verging on the homoerotic, brotherly love and dislike for most bands and people in general.
From Cris's guitar effects, loaded with grunge, to Sam's high speed pop-orientated bass lines, they never wanted to be a punk band (and hey, whatever you think, ''Punk'' is an attitude, not a genre of music and if it was, it died many years ago, so don't try to do all the same old ideas again. As Jon Lydon said ''...try something fucking new''): some say we are punk and some say we aren’t but listen for yourselves by visiting the shows page. Yer bastards yer..
...anyway here we are! Feel free to pop in and say hello, have a butchers and maybe write a word or two, tell us what you think good or bad we'll appreciate it. Oh and if you’ve got this far through my rambling then well done!
