The Breeders never really seemed to reach a ‘peak’ but have always been popular and relatively successful in their fans eyes. Kim Deal began the band before she joined The Pixies and then rekindled the band after The Pixies split – there were however a few member changes. Kim herself plays bass but more recently has begun to play guitar, she is also a vocalist and often does a few of the synthesizer cool sounding parts on tracks.
She originally formed the band with guitarist Tanya Donelly (b. 14 July 1966, Newport, Rhode Island, USA) Tanya later went on to form the grunge/rock/funk band; Belly. Drummer Brit Walford and Bassist Jo Wiggs. These then went on to make the album ‘POD’
The band was re-formed in 1993 without tanya (who had by now go on to form Belly) with Kim and her sister Kelley, Jo however was available and a drummer was appointed - Jim MacPherson (b. James Carl Macpherson, 23 June 1966, Dayton, Ohio, USA). The grunge style of the band with songs such as ‘Cannonball’ and ‘Flipside’ was going well and the album ‘Cannonball’ was formed. This was until about 1996 when Kelley got into a bad state with drugs and then her and other band members left to do their own thing.
Rumours of Kim rejoining the band circulated and after a while a few of them got together and produced the outstanding, never heard before style album – Title TK.
