Brett King is a 19 year old musician with a lot to say. With just an acoustic guitar and a notepad, Brett shows listeners a poetic and colorful reflection of his life from heartache and love, to surviving as a college student trying to make it in the world.
Brett's focus of 2006 has been on getting the word out there about his music; playing small bars and coffee shops around Michigan. Resulting in a devoted fan base that quickly began to grow, Brett began to see more and more faces in the audience from one venue to the next. On the 4th of July 2006 Brett played at a Jimmy Johns sandwhich shop in Westland, Michigan, drawing a wall to wall crowd, and helping the buisness hit record numbers for the night. With a mix of Bretts humor, and the crowds excitement, it proved to be a great night for all. He even won them over by taking prank underwear that was thrown on stage to him, and playing a whole song with them on his head.
Between shows, and writing new material, Brett found time to hit the recording studio with Tim Krukowski from the Detroit based rock band Sponge (who received national attention from radio and MTV with their 1995 album "Rotting Pinata") as a producer. They worked on a few songs, and came out with a recording of Brett's first single, the contemporary melodic pop/rock "My Hope" (included in kit). He has continued to work with Tim, and has also done some home recordings with his own computer.
Friends (fans) have described his music as similar to the likes of Ryan Cabrerra, or Ashley Parker Angel, with a twist. The twist being described as his introspective and revealing style that is easily relatable to both guys and girls. Brett considers himself a writer above any other descriptions when pertaining to his music, and pulls influence from such artists as Johnny Cash, Conor Oberst (from the band Bright Eyes), Ryan Cabrerra, John Mayer, just to name a few. The list could go on forever.
All in all Brett has come a long way in just a short time of publicly making music, and has a lot of time in front of him as a 19 year old student of Michigan State University. Always quick witted in both his writing, and at his shows, he has proven to his loyal fans that he can be worth their time.
